How to waterproof the bathroom so that there are no leaks and mold

The bathroom needs a solid protection that will prevent leaks, mold and mildew. The safety of the surface is guaranteed by properly applied waterproofing.

The tile on the walls does not provide a complete barrier; steam is able to penetrate into mounting cracks, chips. Plastic panels and ceramic tiles are more of a decorative technique than an element of protection.

The advantage of liquid materials in the final solidity, the absence of gaps, joints. Apply to walls, floor, ceiling. Processing with liquid glass will cost about 5 times cheaper than a rubber coating. Application is made in 3 ways:

• spraying - using a spray gun
• pouring - suitable for floor only
• painting - wide brush, roller

Important! Liquid waterproofing material is applied in two to three layers, for reliable coating. Each subsequent layer is recommended to be sprayed after the previous one has completely dried. When working with a brush or roller, change the direction of movement perpendicularly to avoid gaps.

Surface preparation

It is better to choose a self-adhesive. Measure the length of the room, add an allowance to the walls (20-25cm) in each direction. When calculating the width, it is important not to forget about the overlap (minimum 10cm). Chopped pieces are left on the floor until the next day, flatten.

The styling begins. 20cm is indented from the edge of the web - the height of the allowance for the wall. The protective film is removed, the canvas is pressed tightly to the surface. Then the following overlap strips are stacked. Cutouts for pipes are made with a smaller diameter for a tight fit. When the joint of the canvases on the opposite wall fell at an angle between the wall and the floor, you should “play” with overlaps, so that the canvas would necessarily be wrapped on the wall. If the canvas doesn’t fit well in the corners, around the pipes, you need to slightly warm it with a hairdryer. It is good to roll all joints and bends with a roller, to cover with mastic. To completely dry and harden to avoid debris - this may impair the quality of the coating.

Waterproofing applied in this way will serve for many years, resistant to temperature fluctuations, mechanical stress, while retaining all its properties.
