The Colorado potato beetle is one of the most gluttonous pests in the garden. To fight it is not necessary with the help of chemicals, because they then fall into the potatoes that we eat. About natural ways to destroy these insects, read on.

Infusions and decoctionsthat are able to provide protection and destroy the beetle (we take water in an amount of 10 l, unless otherwise indicated):
- birch tar: 100 g is stirred in a bucket, processing is carried out three times within seven days;
- walnuts are used as a mixture: 1 kg of fresh (or 300 g dried) leaves and shells are poured with boiling water, infused for a week, then the infusion is filtered;
- celandine: add dried (or fresh) stems and leaves to the container, add water, boil for a quarter of an hour, dilute the obtained concentrate before use (0.5 l per 10 l of liquid);
- poplar: we load its leaves in a container (half), bring to a boil, after boiling, cook for 15 minutes, bring the volume to 10 l and leave to brew for three days;
- garlic: grind 200 g of heads and arrows, we insist from 24 hours to 4 days (the longer, the stronger the infusion);
- hot peppers - 100 g boil for 2 hours;
- onion husk: 300 g bred in hot water (70 ᵒC), we press the mass with a load, the infusion is prepared 24 hours;
- dandelion: boil 200 g for 15 minutes, cool and filter, take 0.5 liters of broth for 10 liters of water.
IMPORTANT. For safety reasons, use rubber gloves; unused solution volumes should be disposed of. Processing is carried out in calm and dry weather, in the evening (the sun's rays reduce useful properties). For the best effect, alternate infusions, you can add soap to them.
Repellent beetle plants
The Colorado potato beetle doesn’t tolerate some cultures, the smell of which repels these gluttonous insects:
- calendula;
- nasturtium;
- beans;
- tobacco;
- marigold;
- coriander;
- night violet;
- matthiol;
- borago;
- hemp.
This vegetation is planted either in rows near potatoes, or directly among the tops.
Helper animals
One of the effective ways to kill the pest is to train the poultry in the new menu. The task will perfectly cope:
- quail;
- turkeys;
- chickens.
An unusual diet is already given to chickens, for this you can crush beetles or roll them into a bread crumb. A grown bird, walking in the garden, will search for insects that have become part of the diet.
ON A NOTE. Best of all cope with the task of turkey and guinea fowl (Guinean breed of chickens). Quailing will also be happy to absorb the delicacy that has become a favorite, since by nature they tend to such a menu.
The listed methods of struggle, perhaps, will not give one hundred percent result, but will reduce the number of bugs on your site to a safe minimum. This will ensure the safety of the crop in future seasons. And remember: pests adapt over time to chemicals, and natural remedies do not lose their effectiveness.
