How to secure your home before you go on vacation

The warm season began. Vacation time is gaining momentum. Staying in a concrete jungle, people are eager for nature. Country cottages, camp sites, lakes and the Cote d'Azur are waiting for guests! But, as they say, “visiting is good, but home is better”! In order to to return from rest and see your apartment in the same condition in which you left it, you need to take care of this until departure.

Let there be light

If you are leaving for the weekend, just turn off all electrical appliances from outlets. But if the trip will be much longer, it is better to de-energize the apartment. This will help to avoid short circuit problems, and subsequently reduce the risk of fire through your fault.

Also, if you turn off the electricity during your absence, you can save on utility bills.

Water treatments

Water, of course, is useful, but when it pours from sockets or along expensive wallpapers of neighbors, it will not add health and good mood.

It is very important to shut off the water supply upon departure. Do not forget about the batteries. A small and inconspicuous leak that can not be seen during inspection will turn into a communal hell for you and your neighbors.

Caution GAS!

Many houses and apartments have gas supply. This is an inconspicuous "resident", but if used improperly, it can bring a lot of trouble.

• First, the whole family, without exception, must know where the gas valve is. With modern repairs, builders hide it very far.
• Secondly - do not take risks and be sure to stop the supply of domestic fuel during a long absence. This will help to avoid leakage, fire and even explosion of domestic gas.

Thieves do not sleep

The picture is disappointing... And every owner, leaving for a vacation, wants, having returned, to see “everything that has been acquired by overwork” in one piece.

Therefore:

• Be sure to check the windows and windows. Close everything. Well, if there are locks on the handles of plastic windows, use them.
• Make sure the front door is closed. In a hurry, do not forget to rent an apartment for an alarm (if possible). If there is no protection, then you can resort to some tricks (a sticker on the door that the apartment is under video surveillance or a light sensor that can signal uninvited guests that behind the apartment watching). Do not leave a chance to thieves!

Of course, it’s better to prepare in advance for the holidays and think over the little things. Perhaps you will arrange with friends or relatives who will regularly visit your home. Or inform the chairman of the HOA that you are leaving and leave him contacts for emergency communication.

And also it does not hinder to get acquainted with the neighbors who live with you in the same porch and ask them to look after the “lonely” living space during your absence.
