Thanks to the emergence of new varieties inInograd and the continuous improvement of the quality of old geography of planting of this culture in the country expands every year. Today, winegrowers can choose from hundreds of varieties of technical and table purpose, even in the difficult conditions of Russia, giving decent yields of sweet large berries that withstand severe frosts and other vicissitudes of climate.
Victoria Grapes
A hybrid of European and Amur grapes, Victoria's table variety received high winter hardiness from the ancestors and yield, unpretentiousness and resistance to crop diseases. The vine winters well at temperatures as low as –27 ° C.For the growing season and ripening berries rather low-growing plants need from 115 to 120 days.
Victoria grapes are characterized by abundant formation of the ovary, therefore rationing of the hands is sometimes required. In adult bushes, it is recommended to leave from 25 to 30 eyes, but the shoots can be cut as 5–8 buds, and much shorter - by 2–4 eyes.
In some years, there is a pea. For a more harmonious formation of brushes, it is desirable to have a grape-pollinator that blooms simultaneously with Victoria.
Conical, moderately dense clusters consist of large berries weighing up to 7.5 grams, and have an average weight of 500–700 grams. The shape of the beautiful pink-red berries is oval or ovoid. When fully ripe, the sweet, slightly acidic fruits of Victoria grapes acquire additional nutmeg notes.
Lydia Grapes
One of the old grape varieties received new life from Russian amateur middle-aged wine growers, where it established itself as a reliable supplier of fragrant sweet berries. The history of the variety began in the 60s of the last century. At this time, Lydia was widely known in the traditional areas of viticulture, and now a high-yielding vine, giving up to 40 kg of berries from a bush, can be seen in the Central Black Earth Region and the Moscow Region.
Lydia grapes, which have an average ripening period, high winter hardiness applies to both table and technical varieties. In the direct ancestors of the grape variety, there is an American species of labrusca, which explains the specific bright aroma of Lydia, the increased mucus content of the berries and their “fox flavor”.
Medium sized cylindrical brushes form on tall bushes. Rounded berries with a dense thin skin and have pink-violet or dark-red coloring and the expressed gray wax raid. The taste is harmonious. In good years, Lydia grapes accumulate sugar well.
Thanks to unpretentiousness, if climatic conditions allow, the variety can be grown without shelters and used for gardening a backyard, arches and arbors. As a technical variety, Lydia grapes are good for making juice, as well as aromatic dessert and fortified wines.
Grapes Senator
The hybrid form obtained by E.G. Pavlovsky as a result of crossing chocolate and Grape Zaporozhye grapes is characterized by early ripening periods, high growth rate and resistance to known diseases and pests of grapes. The vine tolerates frosts down to –23 ° С.
Already at the end of August or in September, medium-dense large brushes with an average weight of 600–750 grams ripen on the Senator bushes. The cluster consists of even, oval large berries, weighing more than 11 grams. The dark red color of the fruit is hidden under a bluish wax bloom. Pulp pleasant consistency, not liquid, fragrant, with nutmeg notes in taste. Bunches of this grape variety are well stored and can be transported without loss.
Grapes Cardinal
One of the most famous grape varieties of American breeding, which appeared due to the “parental couple” Alfons Lavalle and the Queen of the Vineyards, the Cardinal became the most widely distributed in France, the Balkans, Italy and other, originally ancient vineyards of the southern regions.
On the one hand, the Cardinal grape attracts with very large, rounded berries with characteristic grooves and tassels up to 30 cm in length, ripening by mid-August. Clusters are easily stored for up to three months and transported. Berries accumulate a lot of sugar and traditionally deserve high marks from experts. This variety is great for growing at their summer cottage.
On the other hand, a magnificent table grape, pleasing the fleshy pulp of violet fragrant berries, is extremely demanding and gives stable yields only on fertile soils and abundant heat. Under adverse conditions, the ovary or flowers fall off, the berries do not receive proper development and ripen in the “pea” stage.
At the same time, Cardinal grapes are often affected by harmful fungi and gray rot, do not bypass sredneroslye bushes and numerous pests.
Thanks to the work of Russian and Ukrainian breeders who did not wish to put up with the shortcomings of the beautiful grape variety, Cardinal varieties appeared, which retained the taste qualities of the predecessor and are easily distinguishable in the shape of berries, but more winter-hardy and disease-resistant.
Grape Cardinal Steady
Grape Cardinal Steady was obtained by crossing Moldovan grape Criuleni and the famous American Cardinal. As a result, the variety received early ripening periods, from 115 to 120 days, retained the large size of the brushes inherent in the Cardinal, and the size of dark pink or purple berries.
At the same time, the shoots survive very well the frosts down to –22 ° C, however, in the conditions of severe continental winters it requires shelter. The shoots of this variety of Cardinal grapes ripen well, significantly reducing the risk of shedding flowers and pea. Higher resistance of the vine to rot and mildew.
In the conditions of the Crimea, the Kuban and the Krasnodar Territory, the plants of this grape variety give brushes weighing from 500 to 900 grams. Berries reach weight up to 9 grams, have a dense fleshy consistency and a decent nutmeg taste.
Grape Cardinal AZOS
In Anapa, Russian breeders obtained their own Cardinal, requiring 120-125 days to mature. Possessing increased winter hardiness and resistance to fungi-pests, Grape Cardinal AZOS forms strong-growing bushes with well-ripening shoots by autumn.
Like the American grape variety, the Russian Cardinal has very large brushes that can weigh more than a kilogram, as well as crispy sweet reddish-blue berries, bastre, and more efficiently than their predecessor, which accumulate sugar.
Grapes Rochefort
Grapes Cardinal gave rise to a whole family of interesting varieties and hybrids. Rochefort grapes appeared as a result of crossing EGPavlovsky Cardinal seedlings with grapes Mascot.
The resulting grapes, which require 105–110 days to ripen their berries, are classified as super early or early varieties. The bushes of Rochefort grapes have a high growth force and good maturing of annual shoots. From 4–6 meters of area, up to 24 shoots can be eaten, while it is recommended to use 6–8 buds for pruning.
The vine tolerates frosts down to –23 ° C, suffers little from the invasion of wasps, has an average resistance to mildew, a little less in powdery mildew, and with respect to phylloxera the grape variety requires special serious protection.
Dark red or purple berries, collected in a sour weight of up to 900 grams, can become almost black in color and weigh up to 12 grams. The berries have fleshy pulp with an unobtrusive muscat flavor and dense, but not interfering with the use of fresh fruit. Rochefort grapes are distinguished by the highest marketability and taste.
Grapes Ruslan
Yielding hybrid form of table grapes for breeding by a famous enthusiast from Ukraine, V.V.Zagorulko, obtained as a result of the crossing of the Kuban and the Gift of Zaporozhye. The resulting Ruslan grape has an early ripening period, winter hardiness within –24 ° C and a high percentage of ripening shoots of the same age.
The vine of this grape variety is growing rapidly, has increased resistance to oidium and mildew, and already in mid-August it gives an average density, large clusters, on average, weighing about 700 grams. Grapes Ruslan oval large berries of dark gray due to the wax bloom of berries weighing more than 12 grams. The consistency of the fruit is dense, sweet. Brushes are well stored, the berries do not lose their juiciness and appearance.
Grapes Original
The table attractive Ukrainian grape variety obtained by crossing the Datie de Saint-Vallee and Damascus roses. For ripening grapes, the Original takes from 135 to 145 days, while the plants form strong-growing bushes that are resistant to phylloxera and diseases caused by fungi.
Vine can withstand up to 60 buds, while the plant responds well to top dressing and care, but sensitively reacts to negative weather conditions, which manifests itself in polo and average yield. In some years, the shoots of table grapes mature not well enough, which can be prevented by normalizing the brushes and staving.
Moderately dense or loose clusters of this variety weigh 400-600 grams. Very large berries have an attractive pink color and an elongated nipple shape with a characteristic pointed tip. Due to insufficiently strong attachment of berries to the stalks and juicy tender pulp, it is not recommended to store and transport the brushes of grapes.
