Operation of heating elements: here it is clearly visible how the service life affects the condition of the heating element.

The device TEN and signs of its breakdown

Before replacing the heater in the washing machine, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the principle of its operation. TEN is a heater whose task is to heat the water in the tank. The main part of modern heating elements is a tube. Inside it passes a spiral, which is separated from the outer walls of the tube by a dielectric material. The heater breaks more often than other elements due to the fact that this spiral constantly cools and glows. After losing its properties, it fails. Often this is due to the formation of plaque on the heater tubes. Consequently, the main sign of failure is a thick layer of plaque.

To extend the life of the heating element, it is recommended to clean it every 3-4 months.

To understand that the replacement of the heating element of the washing machine is required, it is possible according to another sign - the water in the barrel ceases to heat up. Sometimes the reason for the lack of hot water is an incorrectly set washing program. If all the settings are correct, then you can immediately proceed to the replacement of the heating element.

Also, a non-working programmer or a water heating sensor may become the cause of lack of hot water. It is better to entrust the replacement of these elements to professional repairmen. In any case, after dismantling the heater, you will understand whether it is the reason for the lack of hot water in the machine or not.

What is needed for replacement?

However, before starting the replacement work, it is worth arming yourself with the following parts and tools:

  • New TEN. You can purchase it at the manufacturer’s service center (or get it for free under warranty). We do not recommend buying a supported part, because after a while you will have to replace it again;
  • A set of screwdrivers (usually a slotted screwdriver is enough);
  • Set of wrenches and pipe wrenches;
  • Rubber mallet;
  • Glue-sealant (if a used heating element is used for replacement).

Step 1 - find the heating element in your model

To get to the heater, you need to conduct a partial analysis. Each washing machine has differences in its design: for some models, the heater is located on the front of the case, and for others on the back. In order not to waste time on the long dismantling of both covers, you need to decide which one is the heater for:

  • If the back wall is large and has a removable structure, most likely, the heating element is installed behind it.
  • If the back wall does not look voluminous, and at the same time you do not see obvious mounts, then the heater is located at the bottom of the front wall.

We dismantled the cover, now we need to find the heating element. It is located inside the tank, only terminals with wires can be seen from the outside. The following photo will help you find the heater:

Location TEN

Disconnect the wiring and check if the heater is working or not. This can be done using a conventional tester. The fears were confirmed, and it does not work? Then proceed to the replacement.

Step 2 - remove the non-working part

You have prepared a new replacement part. Now you can start dismantling.

IMPORTANT: there should be no water in the tank. To lower it, it is necessary to unscrew the drain filter.

Now we take a tubular type wrench and remove the central nut - it is indicated by the number "1" in the photo.

Central nut removal

After removing the nuts, it is necessary to recess in the studs (2). The key handle, screwdriver or rubber mallet will help here - push the pin so that it goes inside the heater.

The fasteners are removed, so it remains to remove the heater, which is tightly seated on a rubber gasket. In order to loosen the seal, it is necessary to pry the heater with a slotted screwdriver. The photo above shows where to start getting the part. Remember in what position the heater was installed. Remove the heater carefully, using a slotted screwdriver from different directions.

Helpful advice! There are a lot of wires with which the heater is connected to the washing machine, so you can easily forget their original location. Before dismantling, take a picture of the assembly on your phone or camera - this will guarantee that the wires are connected in the correct order.

Step 3 - installing a new item

The bulk of the work is done - we removed the non-working part. Now we take a new heater and install it in the landing hole. The help of a screwdriver can also come in handy here, since the element comes in tight due to the rubber seal. Make sure that the part has risen evenly - there should be no displacements or distortions. Replacement of the heating element of the washing machine is almost complete - it remains to install the fixtures. To do this, wrap the mount on a hairpin.

Tighten the pin carefully: if transferred, the heater may fall into the drum. We recall how the wires were attached and put them in their place. It remains to assemble the rear wall, and this replacement can be completed.

Important! Some masters specializing in the repair of washing machines, advise to put the heating element on the sealant to prevent water leakage. If you have purchased a new part and installed it correctly, then the heater will fit tightly without glue.

It is recommended to immediately check the operation of the new heater. To do this, start the wash by setting at least 50 degrees. Wait 15-20 minutes, and then touch the hatch. If its glass is warm, then the washing machine is working properly.

In the next video, the home master will clearly show how to replace the heating element in the washing machine, regardless of its model and manufacturer:

Now you know how to replace the heater in the washing machine. It is recommended to take on a replacement with your own hands if you have experience in the repair of household appliances. Perform all the steps in the instructions carefully, as wires and terminals are fragile elements. Do not forget to check the heater every 3-4 months.
