Air conditioning can not only cool the room. Modern air conditioning is a whole combine climate control with many modes and capabilities. Each of them is introduced into the general functionality of the air conditioner not just like that, but due to the needs of users. In what cases they are necessary, and how to use them correctly, read our article!

The decoding of the icons that can be found on the box with the air conditioner and on its case is presented in the following diagram:

The air conditioning remote control has many buttons, the decoding of which can be found below:

Remote control for air conditioner

The diagram shows all possible indicators for clarity. As a rule, not all of them are available on real remotes.

Air conditioner start modes

Most often, the air conditioner is equipped with the following start modes:

  • Soft start. The compressor engine starts in a gentle mode. To do this, the minimum speed is set, it is easier to overcome the pressure difference in the system, oil is supplied to the engine before reaching maximum revolutions.

As a result, the air conditioner starts at full power for several seconds longer, but the life of the compressor increases many times.

  • Hot start (Hot Start) - this mode only works on air conditioners with the possibility of heating the room. When you turn on the device to supply warm air, it takes several minutes for Freon to warm up (after all, it was partially in an external radiator - on the street where it is freezing). At this time, air does not blow the radiator of the indoor unit, and no cold is supplied to the room.
  • Autostar. Useful feature for places where there is a power outage. If the voltage suddenly disappears, then after the power supply appears, the air conditioner will turn on automatically and will remember all the settings.

Defrost function

In this case, we consider those models of air conditioners that are capable of not only cooling the air in the building in the summer, but also heating it in winter, and not with the help of heating elements, like conventional heaters, but using an outdoor radiator as a heat donor in the “heat” mode pump. " By the way, this method of heating air is about three times more economical than the traditional one.

In the process of taking heat from the street, the external radiator and fan are very much cooled, which leads to the formation of ice and icicles. This phenomenon leads to the impossibility of efficient heat transfer. In order to avoid such effects, an automatic defrosting system has been introduced, which determines the moment of dangerous glaciation. The thawing mode of the outdoor radiator is activated, allowing you to continue the normal operation of the unit.

Defrost function

You can do without this function if your air conditioner does not have it, just by turning on the unit’s normal operating mode for a few minutes to cool the room. The hot heat carrier will carry heat from the room to the street and quickly warm the external radiator. It is only necessary that the fan does not work at this time, blowing cold into the room.

Self test mode

In the event of a problem, the smart device will detect the breakdown and issue its code. Firstly, so you can immediately tell the master the fault code, so it will immediately be clear what exactly is broken, and the master will arrive with the right spare part for your model of air conditioner. Secondly, an unclean repairman will not be able to deceive you by talking about a non-existent breakdown that requires expensive repairs.

Heating function

Air conditioning can be used not only for cooling, but also for heating the room. For this, the usual type of construction is slightly redone, which makes the final product somewhat more expensive. After alteration, the refrigerant can also act as a coolant, evaporating in an outdoor unit on the street and condensing in an indoor unit inside the building. Thus, heat is transferred from the street to the house, although the street can be much colder than in the room.

The good news is that this method of heating uses three to four times less electricity than the usual way to increase air temperature using heat electric heaters (TENOV).

This is possible due to the fact that heat is not actually generated, but is "pumped" with the help of freon from the outside world. The refrigerator works in a similar way, taking heat where it is already so small (in the freezer) and giving it away where it is so hot (into the room).

However, there are several limitations to this mode. For example, the ambient temperature should not be lower than -20 degrees Celsius. The unit may continue to operate, but outside heat is already too low and the temperature difference becomes too large. Energy will be wasted.

Heating mode

Also, with high humidity, the external radiator will quickly become covered with ice and lose the ability to efficiently exchange heat. Therefore, the process of heating an external radiator should occur regularly. Usually this is done by switching the air conditioner to normal operation, only without blowing the fan of the radiator of the indoor unit. Freon warms up the external radiator, the ice melts and disappears, and the unit is ready to warm you again.

Ventilation mode

In ventilation mode, the air conditioner does not cool the air, but works just like a regular fan, which drives cold air into the room. But where does the air for ventilation come from? There are two possible options, each of which has its drawbacks:

  • From the street. If air is taken from the street, there is more oxygen in it. So, it can be hot and dry, or, conversely, moist and cold. It can also have a lot of dust.
  • From the premises. If the air from the room is ventilated, the temperature in the room remains more stable, the indoor unit is slightly dried, but you should not expect freshness from such air, especially if the windows are metal-plastic and the room is actually airtight.

Modern channel climate control devices also have a forced ventilation mode. It allows you to "mix" street air into the general air flow from the air conditioner. Air entering the room from the outside undergoes multi-stage filtration and preparation (heating or cooling).

Drain mode

This mode is also called “Auto Cleaning” - this function dries the air conditioner from the inside (indoor unit). The goal is to prevent the appearance of dampness, and with it mold and unpleasant odors. If the smell does appear, read how to get rid of the smell in the air conditioner.

The exhaust shutters are closed, the compressor runs for half an hour at low speeds. All this time, the internal radiator heats up the unit, and the moisture gradually evaporates. Drying takes place automatically after reaching the lower temperature limit in the served room (until the supply of cool air is needed).

The humidity sensor itself determines when it is time to start the dehumidification mode. Usually you will not even notice when this happens. After the drying cycle is completed, the air conditioner re-cools the internal radiator and the supply of cold air resumes.

Night mode

Night Mode (“Good’sleep”) is a mode designed to ensure good sleep. When it is turned on, the sleep timer presets are usually used. At first, the temperature in the room decreases, so it will be easier for you to fall asleep. Further, during sleep, the air conditioner operates in energy saving mode, the temperature may rise slightly.

Night mode

Before waking up (and the timer must first be set to the correct time), the temperature drops again. As a result, in the morning you will feel freshness and cheerfulness.

ESP-button and its purpose

It is needed for the so-called channel air conditioners, which are not installed for one indoor unit in one small room, and they are cooled by several specially mounted channels (and several indoor units) at once several rooms or a large Hall. For a continuous air flow in all channels, continuous air pressure must be created. This button is designed to adjust this pressure.

Quiet - Silence Mode

This is a quiet mode button that can be activated along with cooling or heating mode. After its inclusion the internal block will work more silently. This option is provided in many climate control machines. It is useful for serious reflection, meditation, business meetings, or other activities when the noise of suddenly turning on the air conditioner at full power can be confusing or even cause a halt classes.

Remote Filter Indicator

It signals the need to replace the filter, which in modern climate machines is a whole complex of thoughtful technical solutions:

  1. During cleaning, the air first passes through a filter grate with sufficiently large cells. On this filter there are hair, allergenic pollen of plants, household dust and other foreign objects.
  2. Further, the air overcomes the electrostatic filter, in which the smallest dust particles, as well as bacteria, are retained.
  3. The final treatment takes place in a carbon filter, after which even odors disappear.

In top-level air conditioners, there is also a kakhetin filter. It contains extracts of natural substances of kakhetin, which are the strongest antioxidants and have bactericidal and antiviral properties. Kakhetins are found in green tea, in apples and other fruits, as well as in cocoa beans (chocolate). After cleaning in such a filter, the concentration of pathogens decreases to 3% of their initial number.

Do not consider replacing the filter an optional procedure that can be postponed indefinitely, otherwise the accumulated dust, germs and mold can adversely affect your health!

In addition to lowering the air temperature in the room, the air conditioner can perform many functions. Having dealt with all the modes, you can use your unit to the maximum.
