Using welding allows you to perform almost any product from a metal material. With the help of heating sources, various elements and structures are combined into one single whole. The joint formed by molten metal is called a weld. A welded joint is a zone of material that has undergone a change and deformation.
Welds are classified according to the following parameters:
- Connection type;
- Edge shape;
- Form of construction;
- The volume of the deposited substance;
- Effort applied;
- Type of welding;
- Length and configuration;
- Welding position;
Weld Technique
The quality of the weld and its geometric shape directly depend on how long the arc will be applied. Some masters artificially lengthen the arc so that there is no short circuit during operation. The use of such a technique is undesirable, since the stability of the material (product) is violated as a result. In addition, the metal of the electrode is sprayed, and the penetration depth is significantly reduced.
The vertical welding technique attracts many people because metal droplets automatically go down under their own weight. Such a connection is recommended to be carried out from the bottom up with a short arc. Technique using the opposite direction will significantly complicate the transition of metal drops into the seam, and will also require additional ignition of the arc, placing it perpendicular to the surface.
Horizontal lap joint is much simpler than previously described techniques. Due to the lower edge, the molten metal is held.
The most difficult is considered to be the connection of the ceiling type. Its implementation will require the master to have a sufficient level of knowledge and skills. To hold a metal drop, a refractory type electrode coating is used, which allows you to create a pocket.
The main requirement for a seam made by any technique is its strength. Especially, this applies to those welding joints that are subject to regular physical stress or load. Corner and butt joints are considered to be less demanding on the quality of performance. This is due to the fact that often they carry an auxiliary function of the entire structure.
The complex elements in which welding is performed, as a rule, have design documentation. It regulates which seam technology should be used in the process, and which should be abstained.
