Repair is in full swing. Everything seemed to have been changed and foreseen for a long time. Floors, ceilings, walls, the repair of the children's room and the living room is drawn to the smallest detail... But no, most likely, there is one detail that you forgot about. The switches! As it turned out, choosing a switch for an apartment is not such a simple matter. This elementary, at first glance, element of the power grid has a whole bunch of varieties and classifications. Let's take a closer look at it.
Built-in or overhead switch
The first difference that comes to mind is the installation method. And indeed, choosing a switch for the home, you should think about the location of the wiring. If it is hidden, then the entire mechanism of the network breaker should be hidden in the wall, if not, give preference to overhead products.
Please note: Outdoor wiring is most often used when performing cosmetic repairs, as well as when arranging frame and wooden houses.
Self-locking or with threaded terminals
If you look closely, you can see that some of the switches are connected to the wiring by means of self-clamping terminals, and some have connectors with a threaded clamp. The first group of products is usually a little more expensive, the second is cheaper. And although located on the wall, they are visually indistinguishable, but still your choice of switch for the apartment should be inclined in favor of products with self-clamping terminals.
The reason is simple: the threaded clamp weakens over time, the connection begins to heat up and it is good if the wire simply burns out without causing a fire. Spring clamps have no such drawback.
LED illuminated switch or not
LED backlighting is another gadget of a modern switch, at first glance, there are some advantages from such an innovation, but no. If you plan to install fluorescent lamps in the house, the use of LEDs in the network is unacceptable. A similar, harmless element can reduce the life of the "housekeeper" by 5-10 times.
Single and multi-channel
And even before you choose to turn off the house, you need to think about the design of the chandelier. Yes, yes, because there can be located not only one, but two and even three lines, in other words, for such lighting fixtures, you may need a multi-channel product with two or even three petals. Indeed, it would be foolish to use 3 different switches for one lighting point.
Dimmers
If you thoroughly dig deeper into the subject: “What is in a modern switch”, then you can very quickly stumble upon a dimmer - a kind of “soft start” device, which allows, by adjusting the resistance in the network, to increase or decrease the brightness of the light bulb incandescent. It is convenient and beautiful, but again, it is incompatible with fashionable "housekeepers" now.
Switches
Another interesting type of circuit breaker, which is increasingly found on sale. The essence of this device is simple, instead of just breaking one electrical circuit, it also closes another.
It is very convenient for use in passage rooms and corridors, turned off the light in the room that you are leaving and at the same time turned on the one where you are going.
Touch switches
The touchpad gradually migrated from tablets and laptops to more commonplace appliances. And why not, without mechanical elements, the sensor will be a priori viable than its mechanical counterpart, and even two orders of magnitude stronger.
Proximity switches
One of the most noticeable shortcomings of most switches is their tight binding to a certain place, and in fact the need to turn on or off the light can arise at any time, no matter where in the room you are at that moment were. In order to increase the comfort level, acoustic (working from a voice command) and remote (working under the command of the remote control) switches that today use just a rush popularity.
Circuit breakers
This type of switch is not exactly the one we used to see on the walls of corridors and living rooms. Most likely, they can be compared with fuses, which they are by their nature. When the voltage jump in the network is higher than the norm, this element automatically breaks the circuit, protecting the wiring and all devices connected to it from damage.
