If it is necessary to replace or lay new wiring, apartment owners often simply rely on specialists, without going into the details of the process. However, the zealous owner will always try to figure out even an unfamiliar topic and discuss with the electrician all the nuances.
Now most often electrical wiring is placed inside the walls, which is reasonable not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also in terms of safety.
In order not to miscalculate with the quality of the wires, you need to know simple signs by which you can determine the appropriate cable for the "wired" wiring:
- As for the material, the rules for the installation of electrical installations prohibit the use of aluminum wires, only copper. It is safer and has higher throughput compared to aluminum;
- Since the wires in the house are far from being laid in a straight line, it is recommended to use a multicore cable. This is usually a three-wire, single-wire version;
- The wire cross-section should correspond to the expected load. Often, for safety's sake, a cable with a large cross section is purchased so that in case of overload the insulation does not start to melt. In fact, in an ordinary apartment, it is enough to mount a cable with a cross section of 1.5 mm for refreshment and 2.5 mm for sockets;
- The thickness of the core insulation and cable sheath is also significant. According to GOST, the first should be at least 0.44 mm, and the second 1.4 mm for a single-core wire and 1.8 for a multi-core.
There is also a list of wires unsuitable for wiring. The PVA wire is multi-wire, and therefore it is fire hazardous and also requires complex processing during installation. It can not be laid in one bundle, which means additional strobes in the walls. ShVVP and PVVP wire does not have non-combustible insulation, it is demanding in processing, it is designed to connect electrical appliances to the network. The PUNP wire has been banned for use as electrical wiring since 2007. Although it was used during the Soviet Union, one must take into account how much the power of home appliances has grown since then and, accordingly, the requirements for wiring characteristics. In addition, PUNP has very poor isolation.
Wiring is an expensive procedure. However, if you follow all the rules and don’t follow the grief of the masters who call for saving on material, you will end up with a reliable network that is safe for residents and does not require frequent repairs.
