Oriented particle board is used almost during any construction. Since in recent years, requirements have been placed on materials not only in terms of strength and durability, but also in terms of environmental friendliness, many are faced with the need to replace OSB boards with safer ones analogues. At the same time, you need to understand that according to safety classes, according to OSB varieties, plates are divided into four types. They are marked with the letter E and after it usually comes a number from 0 to 3. Accordingly, for greater safety for indoor use, it is best to use materials labeled E0 or E1. In this case, there is no need for replacement, but it must be borne in mind that such material will cost much more, and usually such products are produced by large German, Canadian and Austrian companies. Such plates are able to cause minimal harm, so they can even be safely done facing children's walls or in medical facilities. Plates, the marking of which begins with E2, may only be used for outdoor use. It can be a subroofing of non-residential attics, some supporting structures and the like.

Of course, you can not always rely on the integrity of the manufacturer and seller. If the safety marker is indicated on the product within the acceptable range, but there are signs of high toxicity, you should refuse such a purchase. The signs will be as follows. First of all, a rather pungent odor similar to formalin or cheap plastic. If in doubt, you must ask the seller to provide copies of certificates that are certified by the blue seal of the supplier or manufacturer. Also, usually bona fide manufacturers carefully pack their products and label them directly on the container, and put booklets with information about the plate inside. If it is not possible to purchase an eco-friendly oriented particle board, you can replace it with plywood. It has, of course, its subtleties in terms of manufacturing, operation and characteristics, but in general it is possible say that it is quite in many functions can replace the OSB and is divided into the same classes security. For example, plywood with an index of E0 contains less than 6 mg of formaldehyde per 100 g of dry material. Class E1 boasts formaldehyde from 7 to 9 mg per 100 g of plywood. Usually it is very difficult to get such material, and plywood with the E2 index is more widespread, where harmful additives are from 10 to 20 mg per 100 g of material. It has increased toxicity, which is quite comparable with OSB boards of about the same class.

And another option for replacing a standard OSB plate is to purchase an OSB plate with a small thickness, but in this case, if it comes to cladding and other similar work, you will need to take care to make reinforced frame.
