The use of PPU (polyurethane foam) or foam rubber in construction has more than half a century of history. As a rule, foam was laid as a material of various degrees of insulation:
- For insulation of joint seams;
- For noise insulation of the roof;
- As a material for thermal insulation of water supply and sewage elements;
- As sound insulation of rooms with increased requirements for the absence of extraneous noise;
- As a hydro and thermal insulation of window and doorways.
The vast scope of foam is primarily due to the unique properties of the material:
- Light weight allows you to isolate the surface without increasing the load on the supporting structure;
- Elasticity allows the use of foam in very specific, narrow or curly combinations;
- The material does not burn; in case of fire it is immediately charred;
- The surface is characterized by excellent adhesion even with smooth surfaces.
Different types of PPU allow to solve various problems. Foam rubber is distinguished by the degree of rigidity and density.
Latex foam
Naturally, we are talking about artificial latex, a type of foam rubber, which is sometimes called viscoelastic PPU. The industrial material obtained by foaming a polyether compound with water has improved performance. Distinctive properties of latex: increased elasticity, density, resistance to a high degree of humidity, while the material is breathable.
Artificial latex acquires unique properties as a result of the fact that foaming forms cells of various sizes in the entire mass of the material. Therefore, at one degree of pressure, cells of a smaller diameter are compressed, it is worth changing the compression force, and other cells are included in the work. The process looks similar with all physical phenomena, so the range of the viscoelastic polyurethane foam device is quite wide.
Artificial latex is slightly more expensive than other types of polyurethane foam. The lifetime of latex insulation is higher than polyurethane foam, but it is difficult to say whether this is an important factor, since the guaranteed period of use of polyurethane foam materials is about 10 years.
