What a cheap alternative can be found instead of door platbands

Repairing an apartment often ends with the installation of new interior doors. They are selected in accordance with the style of the interior design of the room. Usually, a ready-made kit is purchased, which includes, in addition to the door leaf, a door frame, platbands and fittings. However, this is the most expensive purchase option, and it is not always applicable.

 Door platbands represent special overlays for registration of a doorway. They can be of any shape and are made from a wide variety of materials, such as wood, MDF, plastic or metal.

The main function of the door platbands is purely decorative, and consists in masking the mounting seam or gap remaining between the door frame and the wall. Use platbands for decorating entrance and interior doors. They are installed at the final stage of repair, after applying the finish to the walls.

In some cases, it is not possible to purchase platbands. This can happen due to lack of funds or simply because it was not possible to choose the right color in the store, or the texture that matches the door leaf. There is a way out of this situation. Platbands can be made from wood.

To do this, you need to purchase boards or a solid (non-glued) wooden beam, suitable width. The option with a board is more preferable for an apartment, since it does not require the use of a circular saw.

Measure the height and width of the door, and then sawn boards to the desired size. It should be noted that to the width and height of the door, double the width of the board should be added. This is necessary to ensure the joint at an angle of 45 degrees. It is measured using a construction square. Planks prepared in this way are planed with an electric planer. Work with this tool must be carried out in the direction of the wood fibers, otherwise burrs and creases will form. To make the boards of the same thickness, the number of passes with a planer on them should be the same. Side corners should be slightly rounded. Treated platbands can be coated with stain in the color of the door leaf and matte varnish.

Another option for a cheap alternative to door trim is used when it is not possible to install standard covers. This happens in modern homes when the doorway is located close to the wall or to the corner of the room. In such cases, use a ceiling plinth made of polyurethane, suitable width.
