How to make a threshold for a countertop laminate

Modern flooring should look as harmonious as possible. In order to connect two or more types of floor coverings without sudden changes and crevices, there are special decorative elements - sills. In this publication, we briefly consider the types of sills for installation on a laminate and tell how to make a hidden installation of a sill.

Purpose and types of thresholds for laminate

Quite often, a laminate has to be combined with another type of coating, for example, with ceramic tiles, or with another laminate that differs in color and texture. Between several types of coatings there remains a joint, and sometimes a gap, which gives the impression of poorly performed work. Over time, the seam will become clogged with debris and dirt, will become a "drive" of bacteria and insects.

It is easiest to close a joint or gap with a decorative nut. At specialized points of sale, you can choose any part suitable for the method of installation, material and other parameters.

As for the material of manufacture, the decorative sills for the laminate can be wooden, metal, plastic, and even glass. Glass walkways are needed, rather, to emphasize the exotic interior, they are fragile, impractical, expensive and designed for rooms with a small mechanical load.

When choosing a nut, you should first of all be guided by the practicality of the material. For example, if you need to join a laminate and tile in the kitchen, then an aluminum or plastic part is best.

All sills are mounted open or closed. Below we will consider the order of fastening in a closed way, as more aesthetic.

Installation of a threshold for a laminate in a closed way

For work, you need a drill or a puncher, a construction pencil, a hammer.

The installation algorithm is as follows:

1. First of all, measure the length of the nut, cut off the excess.
2. On one line in the floor, the required number of holes are drilled into which plastic dowels are inserted.
3. There is a groove on the back of the nut. Screws should be inserted into it and evenly distribute them along the entire length of the nut. The main thing is to place the screws exactly opposite the dowels.
4. The bar is brought to the installation site and the screws are inserted into the dowels. If the nut is self-adhesive, remove the protective film.
5. The lane is pressed to the base with confident strong movements along the entire length.
6. To fix the fixation, the bar is tapped with a hammer. In order not to damage the part, the hammer is wrapped in a rag or hit the nut through a wooden block.

Such fastenings of decorative thresholds are most often used in arched openings to reliably hide the joint and achieve the visual effect of a solid floor covering in both rooms.
