Non-standard layouts of rooms and staircases require non-standard measures when carrying out their decoration. These include, among other things, cutting diagonal floor tiles. There is nothing super complicated, but certain nuances also need to be known.
What are the difficulties of cutting tiles diagonally
Why are craftsmen so disliked to cut floor tiles diagonally? The answer is very simple - the ceramic product simply breaks, “fooling”. This can happen for several reasons:
- Poor-quality material - if you work with just such a material, then it will most likely break under normal horizontal and vertical cuts;
- Bad tool - due to poor-quality or dull tools, it is also possible to poorly perform cutting work on tiles;
- An improperly chosen tool is a regular tile cutter, which tiles are not suitable for. He can only break the material. It is recommended to take models equipped with a water supply for such work. Due to the fact that a “wet” plane cutter costs a lot, it is irrational to purchase it for those who do not earn laying tiles. Therefore, it can be replaced by a grinder. Of the minuses of its use - you need a certain skill, it is very dusty.
When hiring a master for laying tiles, you should pay attention to the tools with which he will work, since for lack of such a quality of work will not be up to par.
Diagonal tile cutting
Some craftsmen learned to cut tiles without special tools. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- The usual tile cutter is cut diagonally;
- An ordinary pencil is laid on the fault line. Or the whole action is performed on a bar. In this case, the second part of the tile should be behind the bar;
- After the cut, a sharp movement simply breaks the tile;
- Also pay attention to the base. If it is concrete, then the tile may break. It is best to use a rubber mat.
You can also make a cut using a regular grinder:
- Use only a diamond blade;
- The line cut is drawn;
- Exactly on it (not near) - this is important, the first cut is made. In this case, get a piece of tile of the right size;
- The first glaze cut is shallow;
- The second cut is sawn through the entire thickness.
Please note that when working with a grinder, it is not recommended to break the tile after cutting the azure, as a small nut remains. All the same, you need to clean it with a grinder. Be sure to use a respirator and open windows when carrying out such work.
