What to do if the film has peeled off on the MDF facade?

The kitchen is the hostess’s abode, where she can cook, spend time in a pleasant conversation with relatives or friends. In the same room, guests are often greeted, home holidays are celebrated. Therefore, kitchen repair is an important event. It is especially important to choose the right kitchen set, consisting of several furniture items.

Modern owners very often choose furniture that is covered with MDF film. We can say boldly: the future lies with the film, because the painted facades are not so practical, elegant, they are more difficult to restore. MDF film:

• It looks neat;
• It lasts longer than paint;
• It is cheaper to manufacture;
• It always looks smart;
• It is very easy to restore.

In addition, the enamel can swell and peel off, and the film can be re-glued using a minimum resource and even do it by your own efforts.

Industrial cladding

Even in production for industrial cladding, specially prepared boards (wood-shaving materials) are glued onto the film by vacuum pressing. Hot film using special hot melt adhesive is applied to the facade elements. After the MDF hardens, the excess material is simply cut off from the ends.

If a defect appears on the facade

It happens that an MDF film can peel off during long-term operation. Here you have to perform an independent restoration. In order to do the job, you need to prepare a PVC film, a degreaser or white spirit, soft a rag, a plaster spatula (wide and always new), you will need a sharp clerical knife, scissors and household hair dryer.

The work will include several basic steps that will have to be performed sequentially.

1. To begin with, the surface will have to be thoroughly prepared by cleaning the seams with white spirit, saving the facade from all kinds of greasy stains and dirt.
2. Then you need to cut the film to size, attach the edge of the self-adhesive film to the facade and gradually separate the edge of the substrate.
3. The roll must be deployed very carefully so that there are not too many bubbles and defects.
4. For leveling, you need to use a wide spatula, with which you can remove bubbles that spoil the appearance.

After the film is glued evenly, excess material is cut around the perimeter with a sharp clerical knife.
