Colonial style - nuances of decoration

The name of the colonial style arose from the desire of Old England to once occupy new territories. The British introduced their own way of life and traditions into the life of the islanders, setting up their colonies there. At the same time, the colonialists also borrowed from the natives some characteristic features of their way of life. The colonial style all the time of its existence stood out for a comfortable atmosphere, a combination of exoticism and respectability.

The cost of housing in this style is quite high, since it is necessary to use expensive outlandish objects and high-quality natural materials.

The exteriors of the colonial houses were distinguished by the presence of lush vegetation. It also leaked into the interior. It will not be possible to create a real colonial style of the interior, if you do not use tubs with living plants and tropical trees. Large doors and windows made of wood are also a must. From the bedroom and other rooms there is often access to the courtyard or garden. For this reason, floor constructions often replace windows, because they also have to perform door functions.

Houses in this style most often have two floors. The second is decorated with “Georgian” windows, creating a very special look. Facing the house is carried out by stone or wood. Massive and wicker furniture, wooden or stone finishes both inside and outside are very characteristic of the colonial style. It is these two natural materials that are paramount in this style. They can be supplemented with bricks, copper, forging and the like. In the kitchens you can see clay elements.

For wall decoration, you can also use imitating natural materials, for example, bamboo shavings wallpaper. It will take some patience if you want to decorate the walls with patterns. Wallpaper in this case must also be chosen with a natural color. From prints exotic animals, birds or flowers are allowed.

A very interesting question when choosing a colonial style may be the decoration of the ceiling. You can use decorated beams made of wood to decorate the room, contrasting with a white even base. However, ceilings can also be trimmed with interior fabrics or even leather. The effect will be overwhelming. Light neutral shades in the decoration should be basic. This is explained by the fact that in the heat such interiors themselves are able to maintain a feeling of coolness.
