Each city apartment or private house has a room with a unique interior, which is in demand by all residents. A striking example of such a room can be kitchens with painted facades. Properly selected interior and cleanliness in the kitchen is considered the key to order and good mood of all households.

Kitchen with painted facades

What materials can I make a kitchen set

Kitchen furniture can be made from particleboard, MDF, as well as from wood of different species. Each of these materials has its own strengths and weaknesses, let's get acquainted with them in more detail.

Tree

Facades made of wood occupy a leading position among all the materials used for the manufacture of furniture. The main advantage of wood is considered to be a long period of operation. With proper drying, a wooden facade will serve the owner for many years. Such products do not crack and will not warp after exposure to moisture.

Wood blanks can be given the necessary shape, which allows you to get furniture with intricate patterns. Refreshing such products will help painting the selected color. Facades made of wood are considered environmentally friendly and durable. The main disadvantage of using such products is the high price.

MDF

Kitchen MDF is made from wood waste. To obtain such products, wood dust is used, which is pressed with hot air and takes the desired shape. Kitchen furniture made of MDF is durable and functional. Such products are not afraid of the effects of humidity and sudden jumps in temperature. Their surface is easily cleaned with standard detergents.

Furniture fittings are held on lockers for a long time, a monolithic plate contributes to a good fixation of bolts and screws. Facades from MDF can be quickly restored or give them the desired color. The disadvantage of this material is the high cost and the possibility of burnout of the surface under the influence of direct sunlight. Experts advise buying expensive quality furniture that will be used for many years. Refresh aged surfaces will be able to re-stain.

Chipboard

A similar material is obtained by gluing different sized chips. Such products are brittle, they can not bend, so chipboard is not used to create painted facades for the kitchen of complex geometric shapes. The material in question has fewer disadvantages than advantages. Particleboard is afraid of sudden changes in temperature, high humidity has a negative effect on the material. Such furniture cannot be restored, unlike painted MDF facades. The main advantage of the material in question is the relatively low cost.

How to cover the kitchen facade

After choosing the material, you need to deal with furniture coating options. In the manufacture of painted MDF facades, their surface is covered with such protective products:

  1. Convenient and functional plastic. The surface of such products is well resistant to moisture, is easily cleaned of impurities, and has a low cost. The weaknesses of the plastic include toxicity, the possibility of burnout and brittleness.
  2. Furniture made of painted MDF is easily restored with a self-adhesive film. Such a coating is reasonably priced, does not absorb odors and quickly cleans of the most difficult contaminants. The disadvantage of the film is fragility. Under the influence of abrasives, the coating exfoliates from the base, scratches and cracks appear on it.

We got acquainted with the materials used and the options for coating kitchen furniture. Next, consider the pros and cons of painted MDF facades.

Advantages and disadvantages

To restore the original color of aged furniture will help acrylic paint (matte or glossy to choose from), as well as craquelure or patina. Such decorative elements have many advantages:

  1. Updated kitchens look beautiful and stylish, because the user can choose a shade of furniture for the existing interior of the room.
  2. It is important to use environmentally friendly materials in the kitchen and other living spaces. Furniture covered with acrylic paint does not emit harmful substances into the air. Such a coating repels moisture, resists sudden changes in temperature.
  3. The cooking room is subject to constant pollution. Grease and dirt accumulate on the walls and furniture in this room. The kitchen needs to be kept clean at all times, but some materials cannot withstand moisture. This does not apply to painted facades; such surfaces can be easily cleaned using standard detergents.
  4. The main advantage of kitchen furniture is the presence of a flat surface that can be quickly restored with your own hands.

The main disadvantage is the high price of the painted MDF facade for the kitchen. Despite this, such products retain their pristine appearance for a long time, and are distinguished by good wear resistance. Other disadvantages of products are the possibility of fading under the influence of direct sunlight and damage to the material with chemical compounds that are used to clean them from pollution.

Painted kitchen facades

The nuances of painting facades

For the manufacture of painted facades, it is recommended to use automotive or acrylic paints. From auxiliary materials you will need:

  • paint brush;
  • putty knife;
  • primer;
  • sandpaper with medium grain;
  • solvent.

At the initial stage of work, it is necessary to remove the doors from the cabinet and gently wash all surfaces with soap and water. When the furniture dries, we proceed to the processing of problem areas with sandpaper. We fill all cracks and chips on the base with putty. When the solution dries, we pass along the surface with sandpaper.

Next, take a paint brush and apply a primer to the furniture. When it dries, we proceed to painting the kitchen facade. The best results can be achieved when using car paint from a spray can. Such a dye evenly fits over the entire surface, fills all problem areas well. If the paint is applied with a brush, then the strokes must be done in one direction from top to bottom, which will allow the spreading solution to be smeared. After drying, the surface is back sanded, then a second coat of paint is applied.

At the final stage of the work, the kitchen facade can be covered with a protective layer of transparent varnish. Experts say that complete drying of painted furniture occurs in 1-2 days. Next, we hang the doors on the facades and install the cabinets in the initial position. If necessary, you can apply various patterns to the surface, for this a stencil is used.
