Digitizing video tapes using a TV: what is required, how to conduct

Video tapes were once a technical innovation and were in great demand. But about 20 years have passed, global brands have released new devices, and former innovations have become history. However, in many families, family histories recorded on tapes have been preserved. Many would like to pass on shots from their lives to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

What you need to digitize a cassette using TV

Video tapes are short-lived. To save images dear to the heart, you need to transfer the contents to digital media. The transfer process itself is called digitization. First, prepare the necessary devices. The following devices are required to digitize a video cassette:

1. TV (suitable brand of any world brand).
2. TV remote.
3. VCR (better from well-known manufacturers).
4. A flash drive (DVD).
5. Videocassette.
6. Cable, RCA Video Drive.
7. Video player.

When all the necessary tools have been prepared, you can get down to business. Digitization is not too complicated. Therefore, it can be carried out not only by the master, but also by an ordinary person, a little familiar with the procedure and safety procedures.

How is the process of connecting devices

Digitization of video tapes using a TV happens like this. All devices must be connected in the following order:

• a TV antenna is connected to the VCR;
• an S-video cable is used to connect the TV to the VCR (plugs are inserted into the antenna “sockets”);
• they are connected to white and red “tulips” (Audio / Video connectors);
• the VCR and video player are combined with white and red “tulips” (Audio / Video connectors are used);
• a SCART cable is used to connect the video player to the TV (the connector is also called SCART).

How to record

A blank DVD is inserted into the player. The cassette is in the VCR. The TV remote control turns on to enter the Menu. Some settings are made here:

1. The source is the Antenna.
2. Starts “Auto tuning. Analogue channels. "
3. The “Play” button on the VCR is pressed.
4. The Scan command is activated here.
5. There is a “Record” button on the TV remote control and it starts.

If necessary, you can stop and rewind frames. Just later, again, you have to click on the buttons: “Play”, “Scan” and “Record”. The Start button is also launched on the video player.

At the end of the work, it is advisable to process the video. It can be color correction, frame processing. From the DVD-ROM, the frames are copied to a USB flash drive. Now the movie can be watched on any PC. It will be stored for as long as the author himself wishes.

If there is a large archive of video tapes with a variety of contents, then it is advisable to digitize them. Otherwise, there will be no full guarantee of the safety of such a video library.
