How to install a sink in the bathroom with a pedestal: features of the sink on the pedestal

My favorite type of shells are those on the pedestal. They look beautiful and majestic, and most importantly: no pipes, everything is compact and hidden. But for an ordinary city apartment, they, unfortunately, are hardly suitable, since in most cases apartment sewerage system involves horizontal discharge, and in such sinks it can only be in floor. However, for country houses and cottages this is ideal.

First of all, she is simply beautiful. The pedestal foot perfectly copes with decorative functions, and there are so many types of design that you can easily find the model that suits your interior.

As for functionality, its main purpose is, like Atlanta, to keep the weight on itself, not just the sky, but just your shell. And of course, such a foot disguises all communications that are enclosed inside it - this is a siphon, water and sewer pipes.Sink on the pedestal.

By the way, not all pedestals are one with the sink. Many manufacturers offer separate options and it is very convenient for those who want to choose parts from different sets.

Reference! The standard material is faience, but there are stone, acrylic and even glass varieties.

There is also a so-called semi-pedestal. It looks like this:Half pedestal.

This is a standard hanging sink, characterized by the presence of a small leg that does not reach the floor. As in the version with the whole pedestal, all communications are hidden in it. This model simplifies cleaning and is suitable for apartments with horizontal drainage.

Calculations and dimensions for wiring diagram

The standard width of the sink is 55–65 cm, and I do not recommend choosing smaller models (at least 50 cm). As for height, here you can focus only on your height (and those who live with you). According to the standard, it is 80-82 cm: for people with average height, it is quite convenient. If you want to install it higher, you can make an elevation-podium under the sink.

Often I encounter how people neglect recommendations on the size of free space before washing. Very in vain, because they themselves do not fit into it later, cry and suffer.

Any self-respecting sink manufacturer should supply a wiring diagram for them. It should indicate on which side the water supply is located, at what height the fasteners and structural elements are located, how the sink should be located relative to the wall, where the overflow is, and where is the hole for the mixer, and, of course, everything dimensions.

Well study the wiring diagram before starting work and periodically peek into it in the process. It also happens: a sink is bought, but the sewage system with a water supply has not yet been carried out. The wiring diagram will also help you with this.

How to install a sink with a pedestal: installation steps

So we got to the most basic. The first stage - we prepare all the necessary tools. We will need:

  • hammer drill;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • sealant (tow or FUM tape);
  • set of fasteners;
  • siphon;
  • mixer;
  • roulette;
  • level.

If you change one sink to another, nothing can be done, but you will have to dismantle the first. First shut off the water. Or you can not overlap, then the dismantling process will go much more fun, but less efficient.

Place a bucket or basin under the siphon and carefully unscrew it. Despite the blocked water, its remains stagnate in it. After that, carefully unscrew all the fasteners and remove the sink.

Attention! To install a sink on a pedestal, you need a perfectly flat floor. Check this with the building level and level it if necessary with a cement screed.

So, in the bathroom everything is ready for the emergence of a new "resident". Use the wiring diagram to mark the wall. First, the height at which the sink is attached is noted, then the vertical axis of symmetry is drawn. Perpendicular to her, at the height of the sink, a horizontal line is drawn using the level. All fastenings will be located on it.Markup.

I really do not recommend postponing the installation of the mixer until later. I assure you: it is much easier to do this on a free-standing sink. So we pass to this stage.

First, connect the mixer and flexible tubes with a metal braid (I hope you have previously checked that their length is enough). Be careful not to mix up hot and cold water inlets. Use a rubber gasket for tightness.Rubber gasket.

At the bottom of the mixer you will see a threaded hole. Screw the stud into it and put on the O-ring on top. This is necessary so that the crane does not become loose over time.Ring seal.

Tubes are threaded through a hole in the sink.Tubes are threaded through a hole in the sink.

One more seal is put on from below, then a washer, which is fixed with a nut.Twisting.

That's all. We will connect later, because now we have a siphon in turn. First put the drain hole in its place.Dress up the siphon.

Assemble the bottle siphon and screw it to the drain using a bolt. We will not connect it to anything else yet. First you need to hang the sink.

Punch or drill holes in the wall at the points you marked. Insert plastic dowels into them.

Reference! For reliability, you can pre-fill the sealant in the holes.

We drill.

After that, plumbing fixtures are screwed.Plumbing fixtures.

Now put the sink on the wall and fasten the nuts. Before tightening them tightly, once again check the evenness of the installation with a building level.

Now you can connect all the pipes! From the siphon will go corrugation, which joins the sewer. Flexible hoses with hot and cold water are connected to the water supply.

The last stage is the pedestal. Usually it is ideally suited for height, therefore, it does not require additional fasteners, but “supports” the sink.

Possible installation errors

Be sure to read them and never do it. First, I’ll talk about the most common problems that a wrong installation faces:

  • loose shell or pedestal;
  • the gap between them or between the sink and the wall.

All this, as a rule, from insufficiently tightened fasteners. A wrench to help you! If only the pedestal staggers, then the floor is still not smooth enough. To compensate for skew, you can use silicone.

I hope that you will succeed without errors. The main thing is not to rush and do everything carefully, and then the sink on the pedestal will delight you for a long time with its magnificent appearance and high-quality functionality.
