laptop on standDo-it-yourself cooling pad for a laptop made by yourself will help to cope with two problems at once - it will help to establish a convenient position of the device and will make it possible to insert additional coolers under CPU.

In general, a laptop stand is such a thing that everyone should do for themselves, taking into account personal preferences. The method shown below is just one of the options, the most convenient and reliable. It is not necessary to repeat the entire sequence of actions in accuracy, just take the main idea.

By and large, you can put a laptop on anything. A person, depending on the amount of time and the materials available, has the ability to cut and stitch a soft stand in three minutes from pieces of cardboard, or for several days to create a complex system of fasteners and in order for the laptop to sit tight and have the opportunity to fix it in a convenient position.

What is needed

homemade standThe list of materials for creating a cooling pad for a laptop for the implementation of the design in the manner described here. The presence of these materials is not a strictly necessary condition, they are easy to replace with similar ones:

  • Self-tapping screws - for fastening together the components of the future design;
  • Wooden bars, profiles, lining - as a material for the main body. If there is a workshop at home or just a tendency to construct from wood, then it is not necessary to acquire new parts - you just need to look in the bins for the presence of residues of wooden elements. If it is possible to process metal parts, then the tree can be replaced with metal.
  • Varnish for wood (or soil and paint for metal) - in order for the product to last longer, it should be protected from the adverse conditions of the outside world. Accordingly, in addition to varnish, a brush is also required.
  • Woodworking tools - milling cutter, jigsaw or grinder. It will help turn blanks into parts compatible with each other and remove unnecessary corners, burrs and more.
  • Drill with drills of smaller diameter than self-tapping screws - will prepare the tree for screwing fastening elements.
  • Coolers - additional fans for cooling the system. You can use several pieces, depending on how much is available - more is better.
  • Power supply for coolers - in order for the fans to work, they should be connected to the mains. A highly powerful device does not need to be purchased - twelve volts is quite enough.
  • Insulating tape - to ensure insulation of cooler wires.
  • Scissors - help to separate the old insulation.
  • Molex - a means of connecting coolers and power devices.
  • The welding machine (if there are metal parts) - will help combine several metal elements with each other.
  • Screwdriver or screwdriver.

Instructions: how to make a stand do it yourself

stand for a laptopStep-by-step assembly of a cooling stand for a laptop:

  • From wood or metal, cut two identical parts to create flat legs. The length of the parts should be greater than the width of the laptop, the height and level of inclination is selected as desired. It is recommended to make oblong holes in the inside of the “legs” - so the design will be easier and more convenient to move. Thickness is chosen according to your taste, too thin legs will not be strong enough, and thick ones will leave less space for coolers.
  • Coat the parts with varnish (for wood) or successively with a primer for metal and paint (for metal) and allow them to dry completely.

Attention! It is recommended to apply paint or varnish in two or three layers. This will take more time, but also enhance the durability and reliability of the coating. Each subsequent layer is applied only after the previous one is completely dry.

  • Cut a square or rectangle of metal, wood, chipboard, plywood or any other material that will serve as the basis of the stand on which the mini-computer will be installed. The sides of this site should fit the dimensions of future stands and be larger than the length of the laptop.
  • In the rectangle, make round holes corresponding in size to the dimensions of the coolers purchased for additional cooling. If a lot of fans are purchased. It is advisable to distribute them evenly. And so that there was room for screws. After complete processing, this part should also be varnished / painted in several layers.
  • Based on the size of the previous part, cut four elements from wood or iron, which will play the role of the sides. Their presence will give the device additional stability, which is especially important when creating a stand with a slope. The thickness of the parts depends on the difference in the lengths and widths of the base and the laptop, it is highly recommended to leave a few millimeters of free space. On the side sides, or in the front and rear (depending on where the laptop’s hole is ventilation) holes should be made so that the internal fan can expel hot air.

Attention! For a more tight connection of the sides between themselves, you should make their ends not even, but beveled, as in the picture frames.

The sum of the degree measure of adjacent angles must be equal to 90. When processing, you need to attach slices to each other so that they make an even rectangle.

  • To varnish (paint) each of the sides.
  • Designate places for self-tapping screws on each of the wooden parts (so that they fit snugly against each other, and the stand was stable), and then drill with a drill, in which the drill diameter is smaller than that of the self-tapping screws, the holes in the marked places. Such a measure will significantly reduce the likelihood that the piece of wood will burst when screwing in the screws.
  • Screw fans to previously designated locations. Self-tapping screws need to be mounted with the cap up, towards the laptop. The blades must be positioned so that air can escape.
  • The wires from the coolers should all be connected to the power supply through molex. Scissors and an insulating tape will come in handy here to close the exposed contact points. The operation of the fans should be checked to make sure that everything is done correctly.
  • Assemble the entire structure and fasten it with self-tapping screws. All caps should face out so that the sharp ends remain inside and do not scratch the laptop or fingers.

Recommendation

stand without coolingImmediately before assembling the stand, it is recommended that you carefully think through the design of the stand, measure the dimensions of the laptop and sketch out a drawing of the future creation. It will be very useful to determine in advance the size of each of the parts, as well as their quantity. If possible, it is advisable to sketch out a schedule of the whole work in order to manage faster: for example, while one part coated with varnish dries, another is cut out and processed, coolers are brought to mind, etc. Proper organization of work will allow you to perform it quickly and qualitatively.
