How to swap the sound in headphones

An advantage among the sound design of films, musical compositions and computer games is the two-channel output mode of the audio track. Malfunctions in the stereo mode or a breakdown of the headphones themselves is often manifested by turning off one of the streams or interchanging them between places.

General sounds, or those intended for the center channel, will be perceived unchanged. Depending on the specifics of the audio track you are listening to, changes will be noticed more often or less often. In the presence of the so-called three-dimensional effect in the sound, the perception of the picture can greatly change. But the individual sound waves are divided into the left and right earphones.

How to swap headphones

If you have a PC and the necessary drivers, performing this operation will not be difficult. To configure the location of the channels, as well as the possible detection of errors, you must follow:

• Start menu;
• Control Panel;
• Equipment and sound;
• Sound device management;

As a result of these actions, a window will open where, in the "Playback" tab, you should select the speakers or headset currently in use. And click the “Configure” button. Now here you need to select the audio output settings step by step, and there is immediately the opportunity to swap channels.

NOTE: not all speakers or headphones support functions when functions can be changed. If it was not possible to make such changes in this way, it means that you should either update the drivers or you won’t be able to change the position of the channels in this way.

What should I do if the headphones swap themselves?

There are several options for identifying the cause and solving a similar problem. Ways from the simplest to the most complicated:

• Check the operation of other headphones on the same device. If everything works correctly, then the problem is with the headphones - you need to replace them or try to fix it.
• If it happens during a computer game, it will not hurt to go back to the settings and possibly turn off the “reverse channels / stereo” function. If such a function is enabled, then it is her work that causes the headphones to rearrange among themselves.
• Climb into the "Control Panel" and try to change the sound channels between each other, as described above. It will help only if the headphones support a similar function.
• In the Start menu, enter the search “Realtek” and open the manager found. In the very first tab (it may be called “Speaker Configuration” or simply indicated by the display of speakers) two speakers are shown. Pressing them alternately should produce sound in the corresponding ear. If everything sounds correct, then the problem is in a specific program that produces sound (browser, computer game). If the sounds are played back the other way, you need to insert the plug of the headphones or speakers into the adjacent audio jack on the motherboard. If, when pressed, sound is produced in both channels, then there is a common permanent effect. You can disable or select the audio effect in the second tab right there.
• Update drivers for headphones. This can be done if you go to the "Start" menu, enter "Device Manager" in the search, and then open the window Manager and in the tab "Sound Devices" select the desired, hold down the right mouse button and select "Update drivers. " If you have an Internet connection, this operation will be quick.
• Do the same with the motherboard drivers. This operation is performed in the same menu, but in the “System devices” item.
• There may be a problem with the sound card at the architectural level. To test this theory, you will need to try replacing the PC motherboard with another (if the sound card is built-in), or installing a known working discrete audio module. If after such replacements the headphones work fine, then the reason is in the hardware shell. If it is not possible to install additional parts on a computer, then you can take it to a technical support service for verification.
