Climatic class of the freezer: what is this characteristic, features of devices of different classes

FreezerA freezer is less common in our kitchens than its more popular counterpart, the refrigerator. The difference is that the freezer supports only one temperature mode within the entire working volume. The scope of the refrigerator is narrower than that of the refrigerator - it provides long-term preservation of its contents at low negative values.

Choosing a model of this type of household appliances, you should pay attention to such a parameter as the climate class. What are they, how are they different and how to take them into account when buying a device?

Refrigeration equipment, which includes freezers, is very sensitive to the external environment. Its components are selected in such a way as to work effectively in the conditions of the given climatic ranges, and this primarily relates to temperature.

REFERENCE! Only in Russia there are 8 climatic zones - from arctic to subtropical. There are even more of them on the globe. Therefore, manufacturers of freezers design equipment taking into account the fact that it will be used in certain temperature tolerances. These tolerances determine the climatic classes of the devices.

In total there are 4 climatic classes for freezing equipment.

  1. Normal. Is denoted by a latin letter (normal). For domestic appliances, the Russian version of the designation is used: UHL (temperate cold climate). Temperature range acceptable for operation of the device: from +16 to +32 0WITH. These units are installed in rooms equipped with air conditioning, which must be switched on when the temperature rises above +32 0WITH. In the cold season, accordingly, heating should work.Differences in climatic classrooms
  2. Subnormal. Designation - SN (subnormal) or also UHL. Equipment of this class is designed for operation within the range of +10 - +32 0WITH. Such devices can be used in poorly heated rooms: insulated enclosed loggias or basements.
  3. Subtropical. ST (subtropical). The operating mode of freezers of this class is shifted towards high temperatures from 18 to 38 0C is above zero. They also differ in that they are designed to work in conditions of high humidity. On some models you can also find the designation UHL, although they are rarely supplied to the domestic market.
  4. Tropical. T (tropical). Such models work in a dry climate in the range of +18 - +43 degrees. It is not advisable to use freezers of this class in our country.

Recently, manufacturers began to produce the so-called multiclass models, which can simultaneously belong to two climate classes. They have the corresponding double designations and are suitable for operation in a wider temperature range:

  • N-ST: 16 to 38 0WITH.
  • N-T: 16 to 43 0WITH.
  • SN-ST: 10 to 38 0WITH.
  • SN-T: 10 to 43 0WITH.

Such devices are the most universal, have the domestic marking "O", which means "general climatic performance."

Features of models of freezers of different classes

What are the differences between models of freezers belonging to different classes?

Features of freezers of different classesFirst of all, this concerns the working units of the thermocouple: evaporator and compressor. The higher the external temperature that the freezer is designed for, the more power it must have in order to provide a large temperature difference. Accordingly, the models belonging to the category T or ST are equipped with more powerful and expensive motors, and the capacitors are equipped with a larger working surface area.

For the subtropical climatic zone, characterized by high humidity, in the production of freezing equipment materials are used that prevent the formation and spread of mold.

If the temperature “overboard” the freezer is low, it makes no sense to use a large amount of thermal insulation material. With its increase, the layer of insulating material also increases.

Which climate class freezer is better

The choice of the climatic class of freezing equipment depends on the conditions in which it is supposed to operate most of the time. For an ordinary apartment in a mid-town urban residential building, where there is central heating, it is enough use class N models - in the winter they will turn on the batteries, and in the summer the temperature rarely reaches temperatures above 32 degrees. If a freezer is purchased for installation in southern areas, in rooms where there is no air conditioning, you can consider options for acquiring ST or T-category models or opt for a universal climate-friendly device execution (O).

ATTENTION! If your freezer malfunctions during operation outside the temperature range specified by the class, the manufacturer can remove the device from the warranty.

However, it is worth remembering: the higher the ambient temperature that the freezing unit is designed for, the less energy-efficient it will be, and its price will be higher.
