Sink - one of the most important components of the bathroom, performing, in contrast to the bath or shower, a lot more functions. Modern plumbing stores present consumers with a huge number of different types and models of sinks. Although each of them is usually accompanied by installation instructions, it can sometimes be difficult to figure out how to install or replace a sink in your bathroom from scratch. Let's figure out the order of actions that will help to make everything right.

To the most popular sinks today, experts include only a few of their types:

  1. Models on a pedestal.Model on a pedestal.
  2. Models on the semi-pedestal.
  3. Console and hanging sinks.Hanging sink.
  4. Recessed.Built-in sink.
  5. Overhead.Sink consignment.

The former are also called “tulips” and they are more widely distributed than other models. As for the suspension type devices, in fact, each of them has its own installation scheme, depending on the subspecies. The built-in sinks are mounted directly on the countertop, significantly saving free space.

Reference! Before you go to the store for a purchase, it will not be superfluous to evaluate the size of the space allocated for installation and the type of sink. For example, built-in models are best suited to small bathrooms decorated in a minimalist style.

Preparation for work

When all the necessary measurements are made, you can proceed to the removal of the old "washstand". First of all, the water that flows to the old sink is shut off (you can shut off the water either higher through the supply pipes, or by turning it off in the whole house / apartment). After that, it is necessary to disconnect the mixer together with the supply pipes from the supply pipes.

Do not try to unscrew the nuts on the hoses with pliers or even more so manually: to avoid leaks attachment points are sealed and tightened quite tightly, so a nut or gas key. After the lead is disconnected, the siphon must also be disconnected. As soon as the sink along with the mixer is freed from all communications, it can be carefully removed.

Depending on how the bowl and pedestal are fixed (if provided by the design), different dismantling methods are used. The easiest way is if it is bolted - in this case, you can simply unscrew them. If the bowl is attached to the wall on a special metal frame (this often happens in "Soviet" apartments), then it will have to be cut down with a grinder or a hacksaw for metal.

Reference! Even with a completely blocked water supply in the siphon and eyeliner, a rather large amount of water may remain, therefore, before starting work it is better to prepare rags in advance.

How to mount a hanging sink

Hanging models of washbasins are quite versatile and save valuable space for owners of small bathrooms. Installation of a hanging sink is difficult to call simple, but if you have the necessary knowledge tools, you can easily cope with it.

The installation procedure looks something like this:

  1. Brackets or mounting frame are mounted to the wall.
  2. A mixer is installed on the sink (this is done so as not to put the mixer "in place").
  3. A special sealing grease is applied to the back of the sink.
  4. The washbasin is mounted on brackets, frame or studs, all fasteners are tightly screwed.
  5. According to the installation instructions, a siphon is attached to the sink.
  6. The siphon is connected to the sewage system, and the supply hoses to the pipes of cold and hot water supply.

After completing all the above steps, it is necessary to verify the installation is even with construction level, and also check the liner and siphon for leaks by opening both for a couple of minutes crane. How to mount a hanging sink.

Reference! There is a standard for the height of the sink above the floor. The optimal height is considered to be from 800 to 850 mm, however, no one forbids to vary these indicators depending on the average height of the owners of the room. For undersized ones, the bowl can be slightly “lowered”, and for tall ones, it can be raised to a height of about 930 mm.

"Tulip" in the bathroom

It is not worth considering that the model, which implies the installation of a sink on a special column, is a relic of the past, since “tulips” are still mounted in many new buildings today. Moreover, there are a huge number of varieties of such shells: with “legs” in the form of vases or beautiful columns, giving the room a slightly bohemian appearance. In order to install such a sink, in addition to the set of fasteners included with it, you will also need a sealant, a gas key, a building level, a tape measure and a punch.

When all the preliminary work is completed, you can proceed to the marking of the attachment points. The easiest way to mark is simply by placing the bowl and pedestal against the wall, marking the points of attachment with a pencil. In addition, do not forget to level the bowl.

To save time, it is better to assemble the mixer and siphon even before installing the bowl itself. First of all, flexible hoses must be connected to the mixer. The length of the "native" hoses is often not enough, so sometimes it is better to measure the necessary value in advance and, if necessary, buy the necessary parts.

After that, a round rubber gasket must be installed under the mixer. The mixer together with the gasket is then mounted in the hole in the bowl. After the hoses are threaded and the mixer is inserted into the hole, a gasket is also placed on the bottom of the bowl, and a special washer is placed on top of it (most often it has the shape of a horseshoe). The mixer is then fixed in the bowl using a special nut that comes with it.

When the siphon with mixer is installed in the sink according to the instructions, you can proceed to the installation itself. First, drill holes for inserting plastic dowels in the wall using the previously set marks. Dowels are inserted into the drilled holes, and the screws from the fastener set are screwed into them.

Reference! Be careful when drilling ceramic tiles: in order not to split it, you must use a special drill and not overdo it with pressure during the drilling process.

When all the dowels are screwed in, the sink can be "put on" on them through the holes provided for by the design, and then fasten it immediately with nuts, under which it is imperative to put plastic washers. After the washbasin is fixed, you can begin to fix the siphon to the drainage system, and the hoses to the hot water and cold water pipes. The last in the process of mounting the "tulip" is a pedestal, which most often does not require additional fastening. How to fix a tulip shell.

Mounting a built-in washbasin

Installation of a sink built into the countertop is carried out by experts in the following order:

  1. On the surface of the countertop, the marking of the hole for the washbasin is outlined (this can be done by turning the bowl “upside down” and attaching it to the surface of the countertop).
  2. From all sides they measure the width of the side of the bowl.
  3. The bowl is removed from the countertop, and the outline of the side is drawn inside the marked outline.
  4. A hole is cut through the internal contour with a drill and a jigsaw.Installation of the built-in washbasin.
  5. The walls of the hole are processed with sandpaper and covered with several layers of sealant.
  6. The "equipped" siphon and mixer bowl is glued on board with sealing tape.
  7. The sink is installed in the sawn hole and fixed in it.Installation of a sink.
  8. The siphon is connected to the drain, the eyeliner is connected to the water supply pipes.

At this stage, the installation of the built-in sink can be considered complete. It is worth remembering that some types of sealant take time to “grasp”, and it is better not to use the installed sink for at least a day. In order to more reliably protect the countertop from water entering the cut, you can apply a thin layer of sealant on the side of the sink before installation.
