Types of hobs

Today, hobs can be either dependent, that is, supplied with ovens and integrated into the kitchen set together, or completely autonomous. The second case allows you to combine a hob and an oven with heating of different types. The only recommendation is to use a hob and oven from the same manufacturer. That is, you should not take the Bosh hob to the Zanussi oven.

Hobs can be:

  • gas;
  • electric;
  • induction;
  • combined.

The type of panel selected will determine how to install it.

General hob installation tips

As a rule, the hob is built into the countertop of the kitchen cabinet. When installing a gas stove, a minimum distance of 5.5 cm must be observed between the wall and the panel. For the correct location of the electric and induction panels, there are no such strict rules, but you must also calculate the location. For example, in the case when you are going to cook jam in a wide basin on the back burners or put water tanks for heating.

After you have calculated the future location of the hob relative to the countertop, you need to outline it and carefully cut it out. Use a drill or jigsaw. Do not forget to treat the cut with sealant. In this case, even if liquid gets under the hob during boiling, your countertop does not deform.

Do not forget that on the hob, dishes can be prepared in sufficiently large containers and have a lot of weight. Therefore, countertops with a thickness of less than 4 cm for installing the hob are simply unacceptable.

Gas hob connection

Recall that some work when connecting a gas hob will require the presence of representatives of the gas services, therefore, if you doubt your abilities, but want to connect the hob to gas, it is better to entrust the installation to specialists.

Gas hob connection

If you still decide on an independent connection, then below we will step by step instruct how to connect a gas hob.

Step 1: First you need to decide on a place. Do not be confused that a convenient place for your hob is located away from the gas main. You can always bring gas to it with the help of a special metal corrugated hose. The only restriction imposed on gas hoses in a metal braid is the presence of auto ignition. In such a situation, an accidental short circuit can cause a gas ignition.

After you have cut a hole under the hob, lay it around the perimeter with a special foam tape. Usually it comes with the device. If you did not have it in a complete set, you can always buy this seal in stores where they sell various gas equipment. A panel is placed on top of this foam tape. The contact between the tape and the hob must be complete.

Step 2: Take the next step as responsibly as possible. It is necessary to attach a gas flexible hose at one end to the gas line or gas bottle, and the other to the gas supply hole for the hob. The nozzles for main gas and cylinder are distinguished by a hole. In the first case, a wider through hole will be needed, and in the second, a narrow one. Typically, you will receive directly connected nozzles for the main gas to the hob. If you decide to use a cylinder, then it is worth adjusting the factory settings a little.

For this work, specialists from a gas office may be required. They will also be able to check the gas hob as a whole and verify the quality of the hose. If you still make the connection, at the end of the work, open the gas valve and check for gas leaks without ignition of the burners. To do this, lather the joints. The appearance of bubbles will indicate a lack of tightness.

Joint nuts

What, then, remains for you to do? Try to tighten the nuts at the joints. Do not pinch too much. Paranit gaskets or fum tape may not withstand this. It is possible that in this case, complete tightness will not be achieved, start the connection again and connect the parts, carefully fixing the joints.

If after the above steps there is still a gas leak, call a gas service specialist. Using such a cooker can be dangerous!

Step 3: Most modern models have auto ignition. And that means that you will need to connect the hob to the gas supply system. The best option would be to install a separate outlet in the immediate vicinity of the device.

Connecting an electric or induction hob

How to connect an electric hob, for example, Electrolux, or from other manufacturers? The connection of the induction cooker to the power grid, which is a type of electric panel, will be identical. In fact, models with an electric and induction principle of operation differ only in the surface of the hob and the principle of operation.

In the induction, instead of the usual burners, there is a plane that heats the dishes only in places of its contact with the hob. Because of this, the induction should only be cooked in dishes with a perfectly smooth and even bottom.

We proceed to the installation. Below is a diagram of the connection of the hob pasted by the manufacturer on the back of the tile.

Connecting an electric hob

Step 1: First you need to decide what method will connect the hob to the mains. Will it be a special outlet for an electric stove or will you need to maintain a separate power line from the meter? The second is more preferred. If you already have a socket for an electric stove in your apartment, then, of course, it makes no sense to pull a separate power line and it is easier to put a special socket on the outgoing wire.

Do not be pleased with the electric wire supplied with the hob. If its cross section is less than 4 mm and it is not copper - feel free to go to the store and buy a new one for replacement. On the back of the hob, its power will be written. If you see a power exceeding 7 kW, then the wire cross section must be taken at least 6 mm. The wire itself must be three-core: phase, neutral and ground.

In the event that the manufacturer responsibly treated the supplied spare parts and the wire turned out to be with the necessary characteristics, then to connect to the power line from the panel or to the oven, you will need to purchase special terminal block.

Detailed instructions on how to choose an oven.

Step 2: How to connect the hob to the mains? This will require stripping of the cable of each multicore wiring by 1 cm for further connection with the terminals. For convenience, it is recommended to crimp the stripped wires with the help of sleeve tips and crimping pliers. Pliers are not recommended.

Connect the hob to the mains.

Step 3: Now we look under the terminal block cover. As a rule, there are by no means 3 terminals. Foreign designations L1, L2, L3 denote three phases, respectively, N is neutral, and PE is grounding. Since we have only one phase in apartment buildings, the jumpers supplied with the hob will help you. We jumper all three phases on the terminal block. In a wire it is black, brown and white cables respectively. Blue or white-blue wire is responsible for neutral, and yellow-green for grounding.

If necessary, twist several wiring in the cable in accordance with the voltage issued by them. When connecting the wires to the terminals, install them on the left side and twist clockwise. So, you will protect the core from extrusion from under the terminal.

The yellow-green wire should be left a little longer than the rest. Then, with excessive mechanical tension on the cable, the protective conductor will be the last to break. Consequently, he will maximally fulfill the function assigned to him.

Step 4: After connecting all the wires, close the terminal block cover and try what you got. If you have a socket for an electric stove, do not forget that it is necessary to include a plug in it when the apartment is completely de-energized. Only by connecting the electric hob, you should again supply current to the housing in order to avoid a sharp voltage surge.

Testing the performance of the hob before installing it in the countertop has a very practical purpose, since fixing must be done with sealant.

The plot tells and clearly shows the cut of the countertops, as well as how to install and connect the hob to the mains.

To learn how to connect a dependent hob or combination panel, you must again refer to the previously described options. A dependent hob is installed taking into account the power of the oven. As a rule, a gas inlet or an electric wire is fed to both devices alone. After reading the detailed instructions on how to properly connect the hob regardless of its type, you may have excessive self-confidence in your capabilities due to apparent simplicity.

After the hob do not forget set the hood in the kitchen.

We want to remind you that gas and electricity, if improperly handled, can very well cause accidents leading to serious consequences. Therefore, before starting the connection, carefully study the instructions again, prepare the tools, and only make sure. that everything you need for installation is available, get started.
