Signs of a matrix breakdown on the TV
A common sign that the matrix in the TV has become unusable is a violation of the normal transmission of the image to the screen. May manifest as follows:
- Spots are round or oval in black.
- Burnout of individual pixels, which manifests itself in the form of light or dark dots on the TV screen.
- Vertically arranged stripes of different colors.
- Horizontal gray stains and stripes.
Such signs as: darkening at the edges of the screen (or its separate part), complete absence of an image (black screen), blinking, white noise, may indicate failure of the entire matrix, but only its separate part, for example, backlight. That is why it is important to make replacement and repair in a service center - only there, with 100% accuracy, they can determine the cause of defects. The cost of work depends on the model of the TV, the availability of ready-made spare parts, whether the manufacturer produces them.
When an external glass cracks on a plasma screen as a result of physical impact, the matrix itself is also damaged. The gas mixture included in its composition goes out, numerous noise appears on the screen. In this case, only the matrix replacement can solve the problem, since its repair is impossible.
The only advantage of self-replacing the matrix on the TV is the cost savings. Since a repair center costs 75-85% of the cost of the equipment itself. An independent screen search on the Internet helps to find the most profitable option, well, you don’t have to pay for the work yourself.
Preparing to replace the matrix on the TV
Before replacing the matrix on the TV, it is necessary to perform a number of preparatory measures:
- Buy a new matrix. You can choose the suitable option on specialized Internet sites or in a service center in which they repair this type of equipment. You need to build on the data that is indicated in the technical documentation for the TV.
- Buy protective screen. To prevent possible breakdowns in the future, it is better to buy a protective acrylic screen on the new matrix of a plasma TV.
- Prepare the workplace. To accidentally not further damage the LCD screen, the workplace must be covered with something soft, such as thick cardboard or a blanket.
- Collect the necessary set of tools and materials. This includes a set of screwdrivers with a different type of profile, tweezers for penetrating into inaccessible places and a thin metal plate.
Instructions for replacing the matrix on the TV
Step 1. Disconnect wires and cable from the TV. Accordingly, if the TV is mounted on a bracket, then remove it from it. Transfer equipment to the workplace.
Step 2 Separate the front of the TV from the back. Using screwdrivers, unscrew the fastening parts of the self-tapping case. Put the matrix face down on a soft surface (thick cardboard), pre-prepared with a plate (or any convenient device (not a knife!)), Fasten the latches.
On some TV models, screw connections may be used instead of plastic mounts. Use the appropriate tool to work with them.
Step 3 Remove the old matrix. Having previously disconnected the power supply cable and signal cable from it. This must be done very carefully, preferably to study in detail the loopback mechanism. The junction of the loop and the matrix during assembly is additionally glued with adhesive tape, it must be removed in such a way as not to damage the fragile elements of the equipment.
Step 4 Prepare a new matrix for installation. Wipe its edges with a damp alcohol wipe, install metal fasteners.
Step 5 Install a new matrix. Connect a signal cable and a power cable to it. Check operability.
Step 6 Reassemble the TV in the reverse order. Install a protective acrylic screen.
Step 7 Align the new matrix with the TV control module. Sometimes, after replacing the matrix, the image is not transmitted to the screen, the reason for this may be the inconsistency of the new screen and the control module. The necessary changes are made through the TV menu, more about this can be found in the documentation that accompanies the technique.
