Why a clamshell today: different clamshells for all occasions

Have you ever slept on a cot? This question is answered in the affirmative much more often than the question of whether you have a clamshell. It seems that such a bed is a thing of the past. I also thought so until my friend started looking for an extra bed for the guests who had arrived. We found the folding bed, but we were surprised when several acquaintances were ready to lend it at once, and all had different models.

Turns out, clamshells are still used quite often today. Trying to figure out which bed to use, we learned about modern folding products.

Regular

Most often, this name is associated with this classic version. Metal tubes make up the perimeter of the product. They are also used for legs that are attached to the base so that they can be given different shapes.

Strong fabric (earlier - tarpaulin, now - polypropylene fabric) and the springs with which it is attached to the base are parts of an ordinary clamshell.

Reference. Conventional clamshells have another name. Taking into account the used method of fastening, they are called tensioning.

Such beds still help out when you need to organize an extra bed in an apartment or organize a vacation in a country house.

Updated models

Those who have had experience of spending the night on a stretching model remember that over time, the springs of the bed tightened the material weaker, the fabric sagged. It was not very comfortable to sleep on such a bed. Today it is possible to choose an improved version.

On mesh and springs

To avoid sagging of the fabric, the manufacturers decided to abandon the material altogether. It was replaced by a durable steel mesh, which is also attached to the base with springs.

Reference. Usually one of the weaving methods is used for the mesh: closed or snake.

Replacing the fabric with mesh was successful. If the traditional version is more suitable for temporary use, then the bed on the net can be used for a long time. For example, waiting for an ordered set of furniture.

On lamellas

An even more comfortable and durable version of the bed can be built if you choose a folding bed with slats.

Reference. Lamellas are special slats glued from veneer. The slats are attached to the base of the bed. A mattress is laid on the base obtained from the slats.

It's believed that lamella models - the most suitable for a good healthy sleep. The flexibility of the slats gives the mattress, laid on them, an orthopedic effect. Lamellas sag more where they have to withstand bOmore weight. Thereby the spine is in a comfortable upright position.

Reference. The maximum weight that is allowed for a clamshell depends on its type:

• 100 kg - normal;

• 120–150 - on mesh and springs;

• 250 - on lamellas.

All these types of folding beds are often called urban. But they are needed, of course, not only in the city. For example, good instead of a sun lounger in a suburban area, on a terrace or balcony.

Manufacturers have tried to make their products as convenient as possible for use and storage.

With mattress

To turn into a full-fledged bed, you cannot do without a mattress. So that you don't have to look for it later, many beds go on sale complete with mattress.

On casters

For the convenience of moving the bed in unfolded and assembled form, models with wheels appeared. Now rearrange, or rather, roll the bed, even a child can easily.

With headrest

Everyone is used to sleeping in different ways - on a high or low pillow, and sometimes even without it.
Many models have retained the ability to adjust the height of the part of the bed where the head will be during sleep.

Today, the height of this part of the mattress under the head can be adjusted using a special wooden part. Once you assemble the bed, you will turn it into a horizontal surface that can be used for a phone, watch, glasses, etc.

With a curbstone

Where to store the extra bed when assembled? This question often turned into a real problem if there was no storage room in the apartment. After all, it could not be called an interior decoration.

In order not to look for a secluded corner, the manufacturers "removed" the bed in a cabinet created especially for it. Such a transformer does not spoil the interior, and it is still easy to disassemble the structure.

For two

And if you need not one, but two berths at once? This case is also provided. This design does not differ from a single bed, the difference between the models is only in size.

Camping with a cot

A modern hike does not necessarily mean travel without comforts. Of course, there are much fewer of them than at home, but nonetheless. Remember how the tents became. You can choose high, with several "rooms". And sleep in bed in nature has already become a reality.

But for this you need a special bed - a tourist one. When assembled, it is compact and fits in a case. Disassembled will provide good conditions for relaxation.
