Socket for oven and hob: selection and connection features

Types of devicesHousehold appliances are becoming more and more sophisticated. New sophisticated appliances with high power are replacing conventional electric and gas stoves. To ensure the safety of their use, it is necessary to choose the right socket for the oven and hob. You should also familiarize yourself with the connection features of this equipment.

Types of devices

No housewife can do without an oven. Modern ovens can be divided into two groups, the differences between which lie not only in design, but also in the way they provide food. Thus, when choosing an oven model, you need to remember that they are:

  • Addicted.
  • Independent.

Installation and connectionThe first type of devices is most often installed in special niches of kitchen furniture. In this case, the oven and the hob must be positioned one above the other. This is due to the fact that both devices are united by a single power supply system. The general control panel is located on the oven.

Devices of an independent type are more convenient in operation, since they can be mounted independently of each other in any convenient place. If you wish, you can completely abandon the hob if you plan to use a multicooker.

Installation and connection

Installing a separate socket under the oven and hob will allow you to safely operate these powerful electrical appliances. In addition, a number of requirements must be observed during installation.

Electrical wiring

To properly connect the oven and hob, you need to pay special attention to the wiring. This is one of the most important factors in the safe and competent operation of such powerful equipment. The following factors are decisive:

  • Electrical wiringConductors should only be connected to the junction box through an RCD device.
  • If the power of the installed equipment does not exceed 2.5 kW, then it can be connected to the existing electrical network that meets modern requirements. For more powerful devices, it is necessary to lead a separate line.
  • The hob and oven must be connected using a grounding conductor.
  • Oven locationThe wire cross-section must be at least 6 mm2. In such a situation, it will be able to withstand a load of up to 10 kW. If the power rating of the equipment does not exceed 8 kW, you can use a cable with a cross section of up to 4 mm2.
  • It is recommended to install a circuit breaker with protection class C32.
  • When choosing a cable, you should give preference to VVGng or NYM.
  • The nominal parameter of the RCD device should be one point higher than the indicator of the machine. For example, if a 32 A circuit breaker is used, the residual current device must be rated for 40 A.

Oven location

Before installing this appliance, it is necessary to select and equip a place for it. To solve this problem, it is recommended to use special niches in kitchen furniture. You should also pay attention to some useful tips:

  • Electrical connectionThe surface on which the equipment will be installed must be flat and not skewed. Otherwise, the heat inside the cooking compartment will be unevenly distributed and the oven will quickly fail.
  • There must be gaps between the furniture and the appliance. This will prevent the kitchen unit from overheating. The recommended distance between the walls of furniture and the cabinet is 5 cm, and between the back cover and the wall - at least 4 cm. Also, the gap between the base of the device and the bottom of the niche should be within 8-10 cm.

Electrical connection

Socket for oven and hobIf the power of the household appliance is 3-3.5 kW, then it is necessary to install a 16 A socket and a 25 A circuit breaker. When using more powerful devices, it should be rated at 32 A. To supply a supply voltage of 220 V, a conductor with three current-carrying veins. If the equipment is connected to a 380 V network, then the line is laid using a cable with five cores.

There are six contacts on the inside of the oven plug. Three of them (1 to 3) are connected with a jumper and a phase conductor is connected to them.

Pins 4 and 5 are for zero connection. The last terminal must be used for the grounding conductor. It should be noted that the socket is mounted at a distance of 15-30 cm from the floor.

Oven socketDepending on the type of power supply, the hob and oven can be connected in one of three ways. However, at home, only two are most often used. The first is designed for single-phase wiring at 220 V. It is she who is most often used in apartments.

Contacts L1-L3 are connected by jumpers and connected to the phase conductor. The ground wire is routed to the appropriate PE terminal. To connect zero, contacts N1 and N2 are used.

If it is necessary to connect to a 380 V three-phase network, then the neutral and ground conductors are connected in the same way as a single-phase circuit. Phase wires are connected to contacts L1-L3 without using jumpers. The process of installing and connecting devices to the mains can be considered quite simple. However, before starting work, you should carefully study the included technical documentation.
