A video intercom is an electronic device with which you can remotely open or lock doors. In addition, its owner has the opportunity to see on the display inside the apartment or house the person who came to him, and communicate with him by speech. In fact, this is the most ordinary intercom with a built-in camera.

The complete set may be different and depends on the manufacturer and the functionality of the device. For example, a camera can be black and white or color. Additional ports, gadgets, etc. are also possible.

Security system components

In order to make a full-fledged video intercom, the following elements are required:

• controlled display;
• call panel;
• cable coming from the intercom;
• power unit;
• lock (electromechanical or electromagnetic);

• device controller;

There can be a ton of devices, however, many are optional, such as a key reader and controller.

The equipment listed above, in most cases, does not come with the security system due to its high cost, therefore such products are sold separately. As a rule, there are no problems with mounting the display, because this device can be placed anywhere there is enough wires. However, if you have chosen a device that transmits information using a wireless network, then the work will be much easier - you just need to connect the monitor to the interface.

The call panel is a little more difficult to mount, because in this case you have to deal with strong materials of the fence or wall. This is due to the fact that at the installation site you need to make a recess for the panel and a hole for wiring the wire. Installation should be carried out approximately one and a half meters from the floor.

In the process of choosing equipment, it is better to pay attention to "anti-vandal designs" equipped with a special protected case.

Linking the panel to the monitor

To connect a video intercom a call panel requires a special cable. The connection of these elements depends on how far from each other these devices are located.

So, for a distance of thirty to forty meters many use the ShSM wire. The number and color of veins can vary, but often they are:

• blue;
• yellow;
• Orange.

The orange conductor is used to supply power to the equipment, the yellow conductor is responsible for the video signal, and the blue conductor transmits audio information. The video intercom connection diagram also assumes one more wire that is responsible for grounding.

If the distance between the elements is more than forty meters, then in this case it is advisable to use a coaxial cable.

Connecting the power supply and lock to the system

There is also nothing difficult here. Connection is made using uncomplicated electrical circuit: network / power supply unit / intercom lock / network.

Locks are electromagnetic and electromechanical. The choice depends on personal preference. It is worth considering only that the electromagnetic model will not function in the absence of voltage in the network, and the electromechanical one will perfectly cope with its task, however, for opening / closing it is necessary key.

Connect intercom, the power supply and the lock can be done with a two-core wire. Its cross section must be at least 0.74 sq. millimeter. In most cases, specialists use an ordinary ballscrew cable: one vein is used to supply power to the lock structure, the other to transmit a signal.

Features and recommendations

With the installation and connection of the video intercom, there are no problems with some skills and knowledge. But you can run into trouble if you do not pay attention to a number of recommendations:

1. There should not be any high-power electronic devices and power lines near the laid out electrical circuit, otherwise there may be malfunctions and interference in the operation of the video intercom.
2. The electrical circuit must be created using solid wires, and not form a single wire small chunks, because each soldering or twisting will necessarily negatively affect signal transmission.
3. All symbols indicated in the equipment manual must be observed. Also, don't forget about polarity.
4. It is necessary to fasten the bolts only after the video intercom is fully assembled and tested for serviceability. This will make it easier to set up and debug.

If all the rules are followed, and no points are confused, then everything should definitely work out. Of course, there are different devices and different cases in which the installation process can also be different.
