AVVG cable: abbreviation decoding, design features, main characteristics and cost of the wire

Cable SpecificationsWire AVVG is a representative of the budget segment of cable products. In addition to the attractive price, it has good characteristics and high workmanship. The combination of these factors determined the popularity and demand for the AVVG cable, when carrying out electrical work both in production and for household purposes.

Explanation of the abbreviation

All cable products are labeled in accordance with a certain GOST - an interstate standard. Wire marking AVVG is determined by GOST No. 31969 of 2012 and is a sequence of letters and numbers. Let's take a look at the decryption, for example AVVG 4 × 16, where:

  • Avvg cableA - the material for the manufacture of the vein. In this case, it is aluminum.
  • B - the presence of insulation of current-carrying conductors made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
  • B - designation of the material of the outer shell, also made of PVC.
  • instagram viewer
  • D - lack of additional protection of the electric cable.
  • 4 - the number of veins.
  • 16 - conductor cross-section in mm2.

In addition to the main groups of letters, there may be a prefix "T" or "P", which is written after "AVVG" and an additional digital designation. An example of such a cable is, AVVG-T 5 × 10−1, where:

  • T - demonstrates that the product easily tolerates high humidity and is not subject to mold. It can be used in tropical climates for which it was designed.
  • 1 - indicates the magnitude of the operating voltage. In this case, 1 kV.
  • P - indicates that the cable is of the flat type.

Additionally, at the end of the marking, the prefix "standby" may be indicated, for example, AVVG 4 × 35 (standby). It indicates a solid core structure.

Design features

The wires of this series are mainly made in a multi-core version, but they can also be single-core. The number of cable cores varies from 1 to 6, and the elements themselves have both single-wire and multi-wire structures.

The cable has a simple design and consists of the following parts:

  • one or more aluminum conductors;
  • internal insulation (live conductors);
  • outer sheath made of PVC - polyvinyl chloride;
  • a winding made in the form of a mylar tape to simplify the removal of the outer sheath.

Internal insulation is color-coded in accordance with GOST R 50462-92, where blue means zero, and yellow-green is ground. With the exception of 2-core cables, the cross-sectional diameter of the cores may vary slightly. Basically, the grounding or zero conductor has a smaller cross-section, however, in six-core products, they both have a smaller size and cross-section.

Specifications

Among all the performance characteristics of cable products, the most relevant for the AVVG series are the following parameters:

  • Avvg cable specificationsthe minimum bending radius, which should be equal to 7.5 with the outer diameter of the wire;
  • rated alternating voltage - 0.66 or 1 kV with a frequency of 50 Hz;
  • large selection of conductor cross-sections, values ranging from 2.5 to 240 mm2;
  • long service life - 30 years;
  • operating temperature range from -50 ° C to + 50 ° C;
  • long term of operation under warranty - 5 years.

Along with decent performance, the products of this series have a number of limitations that appear during operation and installation work:

  • Can be mounted only at temperatures from -15 ° C to + 50 ° C;
  • The maximum allowable heating value for current-carrying conductors should be no more than + 70 ° C.

Cable installation methods

In practice, professional installers use three methods of cable laying:

  1. AWG wireHowever, if the gasket is carried out in structures made of easily combustible materials, then without additional protection. In these cases, the cable is additionally laid in metal or asbestos pipes, which will protect it.
  2. The open method provides for the following types of cable laying: from building to building using special cables and indoors using trays, channels and ducts.
  3. Laying in the ground. AVVG cable, like many other cables, is not recommended for laying in trenches and soils. AVVG does not have its own protection against mechanical stress on the cable sheath, which in further operation leads to failure.

Features of operation

The wires of the AVVG series are very popular and are widely used for laying cable routes power grids, lines from distribution substations, as well as the organization of electrical wiring at industrial facilities and in residential buildings.

When organizing cable routes

These products do not have armored protection, therefore, they must be laid in places where there are no factors that can exert mechanical or compression effects on it. In addition, they have a very high sensitivity to tensile loads that can lead to damage. external insulation, therefore, if cables are laid through the air or along the walls of buildings, then they are fixed with special ropes.

If the power supply route is laid in the ground, then instead of a conventional wire, an AAVGz cable is used, which is filled with PVC compound. This allows the conductors to be sealed and the free space between them to be filled, which increases the mechanical strength of the product.

Before laying the product, dig a trench with a depth from 150 to 200 mm, after which a two-millimeter layer of sand is poured onto it, organizing a kind of pillow, and then the cable is laid and covered with the remains of the sand. If the line is organized in places with a high load on the ground, for example, on roads, the cable is placed in metal pipes before laying.

When creating household wiring

Decoding cable avvg Basically, for the organization of household wiring, wires with cores are used, whose cross sections vary from 2.5 to 6 mm². Such products have a double protective layer (outer shell and insulation), therefore, to create open wiring, in private houses and apartments, you can do without the use of cable channels. In the case of organizing hidden wiring, the cable is placed in a corrugation.

PVC compound is highly resistant to ultraviolet radiation, so it can be used when connecting outbuildings, when creating street wiring. It is also suitable for organizing wiring in basements and cellars with high humidity.

Cable cost

The cost of the cable is varied from 485 to 3286 rubles per 100 m and depends on the number of veins, as well as their cross section. Before buying cable products, including representatives of the AVVG series, be guided by the following factors:

  • Aluminum cablenumber of cores: selected based on the operating conditions of the product, for example, when creating a single-phase network 2 cores are enough, if you need to organize protective grounding, then three, one of which is a PE conductor. In the case of connecting electrical installations and power equipment, 5 or 6 (with grounding) conductors are required;
  • section of the cable. It is determined based on the calculation of current loads and is selected in accordance with the table of the same name;
  • length, determined by the distance of the object, while it is necessary to take into account the turns and distances that are necessary to avoid obstacles;
  • availability of a certificate of quality and conformity.

Additionally, you should check the integrity of the conductors and insulation. The test is quite simple and for this you need to follow these steps:

  1. Take a tester and connect the black wire to the com jack, and the red wire to the VΩ jack, and then turn on the device.
  2. Transfer the meter to the "dialing" mode, and then close the probes together to check the instrument for serviceability. If it works, a beep will sound.
  3. Next, you need to ring each of the veins, while the buzzer signal will also inform about serviceability.

At the final stage, it is necessary to check the internal insulation between each core. To do this, alternately touch the cores with the probes with different shell color. In a serviceable product, adjacent cores do not "ring out".
