In the world of advanced technologies, it is no longer a novelty to meet various innovations in the most diverse areas of human life. Nanotechnology has affected not only the production of cars, but also made a breakthrough in consumer services. It's not news to anyone that there are so-called “smart houses”. One of the components of such a house can be a smart socket.

Smart plug features
A smart plug is an electrical device that is designed to turn on and off automatically. And there is also a way to control work using a smartphone. Accordingly, such a socket automates the operation of any device that is included in it.
With this remote control device, you can be sure not to leave your iron or soldering iron on, or you can control other household items remotely. Such a device can also be used as an alarm.
By design, smart devices are divided into the following types:
- control modules that are built under it so that it does not change externally;
- modules that are plugged into the outlet itself, and various household appliances are already directly connected to these modules.

The system of the first type is more difficult to install, since it is built inside, while not changing its appearance. The secondary device is much easier to use and install. It is enough to simply plug it in externally, but this type may look a little strange.
For a GSM outlet, it is provided both to buy it in stores, and the ability to design it yourself at home.
The principle of operation is carried out by transmitting a signal through the support of a digital communication standard. Recently, it has become a practice to make such a device with your own hands due to the large amount of Chinese low-quality product on the market.
The disadvantage of such a device is and will remain for a long time - a large consumption of electricity. This is due to the presence of a power supply unit, with the help of which voltage drops are regulated and equalized so that the switch can serve a long and good service. Among other things, the parts from which the socket will be assembled can be expensive.
Fixture functions
The main options for using the device are as follows:
-
the ability to control work from your gadget, turn on and off household appliances connected to it at a certain distance;
- the ability to synchronize the socket with a motion sensor, which will control the actions of the socket;
- a smart socket is able to count the amount of electricity consumed;
- the ability to notify the owner about turning the device on and off;
- remote control of temperature and climate conditions in the room.
Such a socket greatly simplifies the control of household and climatic devices..
DIY assembly
A home-made “smart socket” will look like an ordinary cube-shaped adapter that will be connected to an extension cord. In order to be able to regulate the operation of the connected devices, a SIM card must be embedded in it. Accordingly, all work will be regulated by an SMS message or a call from your mobile device. And also control is provided, which is carried out manually using buttons located on the side of the case.
Management can be carried out via a mobile phone, as well as via wi-fi.
In order to be able to save electricity bills, it is recommended to install special energy-saving devices that reduce voltage and power consumption. Thus, from 30 to 50% of funds for utility bills are saved.
In order to assemble the remote device yourself, you need the following parts:
- spark platform;
- relay platform with which power management is performed;
- GPRS platform, with the help of it the device will communicate with a mobile phone.

The build process looks like this:
-
The first step is to install the spark platform on a special base.
- The GPRS platform is mounted on top.
- After that, a SIM card is inserted into the slot and the relay platform is installed on top.
- To connect the wire to the device, you will have to cut off several connectors in the case.
- Next, you need to form the body of your device by attaching special parts to the four sides. The device will look like a cube.
- The next step is to assemble the entire electrical part. To do this, you need to take an extension cord and cut the wire in half, then attach it through the terminal blocks to the relay.
- Install the converter so that 220 volts is converted to 5 volts.
- Connect all the necessary devices to the socket.
- Send an SMS command to the control device to turn on the devices.
In order to send SMS, you do not need to reconfigure your phone every time - it is very convenient. It will be enough to make a call to him.
However, remember that in this way the device is not protected from spam.
