Despite the fact that each of us has a diploma of graduation, we have to take or confirm some practical skills as needed. For example, the same driver's license is not given in institutes, colleges or vocational schools. People, especially if they need it for work, go to study and then receive confirmation of your skill. The same happens with the permit for electrical work.

Employee admission groups

While studying at a school or institute, you can gain knowledge and even practice electrical safety. However, if anything is indicated in the diploma, then only the name of the subject that you studied. Therefore, when getting a qualification group for working with electrical engineering, you should attend to obtaining certifying document. Such a document indicates which tolerance group is assigned. Having such a certificate will greatly facilitate the opportunity to get the job you need and will show how high your professional skills are.

Employees of the enterprise who are related to electrical appliances and devices must necessarily take a course on electrical safety and receive a certain category of admission to work. For this, all personnel are divided into categories, each of which receives its own qualification group based on the tasks being performed.

To begin with, the employee will have to go through a medical commission, training and pass exams of the qualification commission. Based on the level of knowledge, experience, length of service and the presence (absence) of higher education, the applicant is assigned one or another qualification.

Categories and groups for electrical safety

Before you understand what groups are, you first need to divide all employees of the enterprise into two categories:

1. Electrotechnical staff.
2. Non-electrical personnel

The first category, in turn, is divided into subcategories: administration and operational services. The administration includes all those who are planning work on electrical installations. Operational services carry out renovation work, connections and disconnections of objects, perform the functions of a supervisory service, issue permits. People belonging to this category themselves have electrical safety groups from 2 to 5 inclusive.

All those who do not fall into the first category automatically belong to non-electrical personnel and it is enough for them to have 1 group. These are mainly drivers, cleaners, loaders, office workers.

Having dealt with the categories, you can come to parse existing groups: to whom they are assigned, and who is granting permissions.

Five-level admission system

The question of how many electrical safety admission groups there are arises mainly from beginners who want to raise their level. Among electricians, sometimes not everyone thinks about the possibility of an increase. And therefore, not everyone, even having the third level, knows about the fourth and fifth, and even more so that they are different.

There are currently five skill groups. Such specialization system has existed since Soviet times. It proved to be effective and therefore was reflected in the Order of the Ministry of Labor of Russia dated July 24, 2013 No. 328n.

1. The first of the existing groups is assigned to all employees. To do this, it is enough to be instructed, to know the rules of first aid. Anyone who has the highest qualifications, but not lower than the third group, conducts instruction.
2. The lowest among specialists is the second group. This clearance level does not provide for independent work. Perform electrical work only in the presence of a more qualified specialist or as part of a repair team. Sometimes this level is sufficient if the responsibility is not to troubleshoot faults and connections. Those assigned to group 2 for electrical safety cannot be younger than 18 years old. That is, minor students and trainees receive only the first. The commission takes exams for those who have completed a two-week training or have a secondary vocational education. The commission must include Rostechnadzor employees.
3. If the second category can also be obtained by non-electrical personnel, then the third category is reserved only for electrical personnel. The main principle here is the employee's majority. This requirement allows people with 3rd qualifications to work independently with installations up to 1000 volts. Self-service consists of connection and maintenance. A certificate with a special mark "up to and over 1000 volts" gives the right to work as part of a team on repair work. The third group is assigned on electrical safety at the enterprise or one of the departments of Rostekhnadzor by the certification commission. Individuals with this level are responsible for safety, supervise and allow the team to work. Raising the level to the 3rd depends on a number of conditions. In addition to general knowledge, the specialist must know well the structure of the serviced equipment and have the necessary work experience. Vocational school trainees apply for the required level in six months, and the presence of a higher electrical engineering education reduces the period to one month.
4. Group 4 on electrical safety has already an expanded list of independent work. Such specialists issue orders for work with electrical installations with voltages up to 1000 volts. Their duties, by order of the person responsible for the entire electrical system, include issuing orders for work with equipment exceeding the thousand-voltage permissible limit. The amount of knowledge is needed within the previous groups. Higher education in electrical engineering will help to obtain qualifications in two months, others only after six months of work in the third group. Trainees have no access to this category.
5. Managing work with maximum responsibility and the ability to perform work of any complexity requires a specialist to have the highest fifth qualification. The category is assigned by the commission of Rostekhnadzor. In this case, the specialist must know the requirements of electrical and fire safety standards, organize management in conditions of any complexity. Those who work in the fourth group for twenty-four months are allowed to take exams for advanced training. With a higher electrical engineering education, it will be enough to have three months of work experience.

Electrician's main document

All electrical personnel, after passing the exams, receive a certificate containing the following information:

• Surname, name and patronymic of the owner of the document.
• What position does this person occupy and his place of work.
• Assigned category.
• On the title page, the owner's data is certified by the seal and signature of the responsible specialist or the head of the company.
• Special notes are made on the last page in the table. For example, it can be "admission to work at height", "testing of electrical installations."
• Permits for work exceeding 1000-volt value are also indicated in special marks.

Qualifying minimum rules

The normal operation of each of the categories depends on a number of prerequisites. Disregard for the rules entails cancellation of qualification category. Each responsible person should know the following minimum:

• Only representatives of the fifth category can give orders and exercise leadership at installation voltages up to 1000 volts and above.
• Expired credentials mean that the admission is downgraded to the first. The same thing happens when more than three years have passed between knowledge tests.
• Trainees can never have higher than second level.
• An occupational safety specialist with the fourth level must have a total experience of at least three years.
• The right of responsibility for the entire electrical economy is borne by the 4th group of electrical safety approval. She is also responsible for instructing the first group and teaching the second. This is done within the framework of the commission created at the enterprise.
• Advanced training takes place after the required period or change of position (place of work).

Thus, from all of the above, it becomes clear that starting from the third qualification group it is possible to work independently and even instruct workers with lower qualifications.
