Cable PUGNP: decoding of the abbreviation of the name of the wire, scope

Pugnp wire decoding and applicationThe PUGNP wire does not fall under state standards and is produced according to outdated technical conditions, but it is still a very popular cable, which is used for laying electrical networks not only in household, but also in industrial premises. This practice is rather risky. The technical characteristics of this product do not comply with fire safety regulations.

Cable Description

The PUGNP cable can consist of two or three copper conductors. Each of them has conductive threads that are tightly twisted together.

The minimum number of such threads is seven. Each core is insulated with polyvinyl chloride 0.3 mm thick and marked with its own color. The two-core cable has a zero, colored blue. In a three-core wire, the grounding conductor is colored yellow (often a green stripe is also applied). Also from different manufacturers, sometimes other colors are found, but each conductive thread will have its own. The total insulation of the wire is 0.5 mm. It is made of white polyvinyl chloride.

The core of this cord is capable of conducting an electric current, the voltage of which does not exceed 250 volts. The nominal frequency is 50 hertz. With a cross-section ranging from 0.75 to 4 square millimeters, you can select a wire for almost any need.

Application and decoding

PUGNP wire is designed to connect lighting devices. It can also be used to power low-power electrical appliances. The main distinguishing feature of this product is that the cable is flat. This is fully reflected in its abbreviation. Decoding PUGNP:

  1. Pugnp cableP - wire.
  2. UN means that the cable is universal and can be used in almost all areas.
  3. G - flexible.
  4. P - flat.

In an inflexible wire, the letter A may be present in front of the abbreviation. This means that the cable is made of aluminum. Also, such a product has other varieties, for example, PUGNPng (has insulation, which has a reduced level of flammability) or PUGNPngd-LS (this wire is not only not flammable, but also does not smolder at all).

Pugnp decoding and application

In the very name of the product, the letter "G" is not in its place. The reasons for this can only be guessed at. There is a possibility that there was an error during registration. There have not been and will not be official comments on this matter, because the PUGNP cord is prohibited by law to use.

This is due to non-compliance with fire safety requirements. But the phrase “cannot be used” does not mean that it cannot be produced and sold. The cheapness makes this cord very popular.

Specifications and operating conditions

The cable is produced according to the technical conditions 19K13-020-93 of the state standard. It is intended for lighting and connecting weak electrical appliances. The method of laying the cord is fixed. Specifications:

  1. Pugnp applicationThe conductors are made of copper strands.
  2. Insulation material - polyvinyl chloride.
  3. Insulation properties can be maintained at temperatures ranging from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius. The wire is able to withstand a long term operation at a temperature of 70 degrees.
  4. Installation can also be carried out in winter. It is allowed to carry out work at -15. If the temperatures are lower, the insulation can be damaged during bending.
  5. The allowed bend is 10 diameters.

The service life of the product is 15 years. The warranty for the cable is only 2 years from the date of start of use.

Application features

According to the current regulatory enactments, PUGNP can only be used in household or industrial premises for supplying power to devices. The maximum current values must not exceed the parameters of the conductor. But quite often such a wire is used to lay a power line.

During the Soviet era, it was used to create electrical wiring in residential buildings and apartments.

Decoding pugnp

The technical conditions under which this cord is created allow manufacturers to change the cross-sectional area within 30%. This helps to reduce the final cost of the cable by reducing the amount of material used. When a consumer purchases a PUGNP wire with a cross section of 2.5 mm, he actually receives a product of 2 mm. An inexperienced person is unlikely to distinguish quality products from bad ones. When installing the cord into a network that exceeds the rated load, fire may occur. Also, such wires do not comply with the standards for insulation thickness. These standards assume a minimum layer of 0.4 mm PVC sheath.

Despite all the shortcomings, the PUGNP wire did not receive a complete ban. Any product under standardization will be hazardous if used under inappropriate conditions. This cable should only be used in cases where the person is fully confident that the loads will not be able to provoke ignition. For increased safety, a corrugated pipe can be used.
