Double socket with grounding: installation and connection of indoor and outdoor models

Modern coziness and comfort cannot be achieved without numerous types of electrical appliances. As a result, the room requires a sufficient number of electrical points. Old models are no longer as effective, so they have been replaced with new options. They have undeniable advantages and have several places for connecting plugs. A double socket with grounding can be attached to exposed or hidden AC wiring.

Some people still have no idea about such devices. They believe that a double grounded outlet is made up of multiple boxes that are close to each other. But this significantly spoils the appearance of the room, moreover, most likely it will be necessary to make an additional hole for installing a socket outlet. This makes the job much more difficult.

And new monoblock models easily replace old prototypes without making a niche for an additional point. However, you can completely replace the entire unnecessary structure with a new one up to the installation box, but there is a possibility that you will have to do a large-scale re-gluing of wallpaper in this work area, or painting. You can work around this problem and carefully mount the device into an existing socket.

Retrieving old point

Installing a double outlet is considered a minor repair, respectively, almost any man can cope with this task. In order not to spoil the interior of the room and not to be engaged in laying a new electrical wire, it is enough to mount the device in the existing box. However, these manipulations will require light cosmetic repairs. The installed double socket in one socket assumes the following dismantling steps:

1. First, the electricity in the apartment or house is cut off. This is the first safety rule. The switchboard contains switches that move vertically or horizontally. It all depends on the configuration of the machine. After the work done, you need to make sure that there is no voltage in the network by checking the wiring with an indicator screwdriver.
2. Next, dismantle the old point by unscrewing the mounting screws or screws holding the socket. Then the cover is removed and the wires are disconnected. Then the fixing legs of the device itself are unscrewed directly in the box.

In the same way, a new product is disassembled, removing the outer panel, separating it from the main part.

Installing a socket and working with wires

If there is a desire to install a new socket box, many people prefer Schneider Electric. Its inside diameter is 6.8 cm. These products are of high quality, reliable and in high demand. Their advantage is that the fasteners are located on the outside of the device, so the socket support is easy to fix.

Now it is difficult to pick up new models of double points so that they fit as tightly as possible into the old socket. Accordingly, there is a risk of permanent instability of the structure in the box. It is better to install a new version that firmly fixes the product. Typically, the main box holding the device itself is fixed to plaster or similar quick-drying mortar. It is advisable to mount the part evenly, since then it will be difficult to align it. You will have to re-dismantle everything and reinstall the element. Step-by-step cable splitting:

1. To eliminate the external protection of the wire, an ordinary sharp knife is used. Always cut the insulation lengthwise and in small pieces. In this case, the risk of injury is reduced.
2. Inexperienced people believe that the more spare cable left, the better. This is not true. Since the front panel with a large bundle of wires may not fit snugly. A length of about 10 cm is sufficient. But if they are short, then they will have to be lengthened. To do this, you need to strip the edges by 1 cm and attach similar cables by tightening the joints with pliers. Then these bare areas are treated with insulating tape.

If the edges of the electrical wire are broken or oxidized, then it is better to remove the defective part.

Connecting cables

After preparing the wires, they must be connected to the contacts. Based on the standard, there are 3 wiring in the distribution board, which are designated as follows: yellow-green (ground), brown (phase) and blue (zero). Work process:

1. First, to connect the electric wires, it is necessary to unscrew the screws from the terminals with a flat or sharp tip screwdriver. It all depends on the type of screws. Then cables are installed there and twisted back.
2. If you attach zero to the right contact or vice versa, swapping them with the phase, then there is nothing wrong with that. But usually the phase cable is connected to the right terminal. It is important not to allow them to be connected on one contact (bus), because a short circuit will be inevitable.
3. A ground wire is fixed in the middle. A special sign is located near the corresponding terminal.

To avoid the cables falling out of the contacts, all screws must be tightened as tightly as possible.

Installation of all spare parts

After connecting the device to the wires from the junction box, the remaining mechanisms will be laid. The double internal earthed socket is attached as follows:

1. To install a double socket in the main box, you must carefully place the cables into the product. It is unacceptable that the wires are under the fixing tabs, otherwise the insulation will be broken. It is enough to fold the material in the form of an accordion and fix it in a box.
2. Further, an outlet is mounted to the walls of the main box with a certain deepening inward. The whole structure is attached with screws or screws. The second option is more reliable. After aligning the parts, they begin to fix the caliper to the box with self-tapping screws.
3. After firmly strengthening the necessary elements, a decorative strip is mounted. If the previous work is done correctly, and the corners of the socket are symmetrical to the box, then the panel will be installed tightly, without gaps between the wall and the part.

We must not forget that the power of a double outlet does not double, since only one cable is connected. Therefore, you should not overload a point whose operating voltage is 16 Amperes and include more than one electrical device over 2 kW in it.

Double socket from single models

Not all modern European plugs are comfortable to use for dual points in a one-piece body. They often have to be turned over, connecting 2 pieces at the same time. Although the appearance of the structure is attractive, such activities still cause discomfort.

The problem is solved by installing one electrical unit, consisting of two or more single models. For these purposes, you will need 2 sockets and 2 socket boxes (it is permissible to use a double box), you also need to purchase a cover for 2 holes. Even triple and quadruple devices can be installed according to this scheme. The internal double socket is installed according to the following principle:

1. First, holes are made in the wall for the main boxes. A perforator with a crown of the required diameter is used. But before drilling, marks are made along one line so that the location of the grooves is symmetrical. If there is no special nozzle for concrete, then a regular drill will do. A circle is created with a pencil, along which it is necessary to make many holes and remove the inside with a chisel and hammer.
2. You need to know that the sockets can interfere with each other, overlapping or abutting each other. Therefore, the gap from one hole to the next is 7.1 cm. There are socket models equipped with special fasteners for secure docking to the unit. Therefore, during their installation, the distance is controlled automatically.
3. This will be followed by cutting the wire using standard technology. It is advisable to use a cable with a cross section of at least 2.5 mm². It will withstand enough stress.

Before working with an electrician, the current in the switchboard must be turned off.

The final part

In the first version of the double socket, everything is very clear with the connection of cables to 3 contacts: ground, phase and zero. But in this case, the product has a slightly different design. You need to know the nuances, for example, the rules of the PUE on clause 1.7.144 prohibit the serial connection of ground wires. Assembly instruction:

1. Zero and phase are connected by a loop, and the ground is divided into separate branches. The required number is made by crimping in the box based on the number of plug-in sockets.
2. After manipulating the grounding branches, it is necessary to wrap the sleeve with insulating tape or heat shrink tubing. Then you need to connect the outlet itself.
3. 2 phases are connected to the contact of the first product. The first wire comes from the main cable, and the second is attached to the other outlet. Mount zero on the next terminal in the same way. The supply wire and the connected pieces are selected with the same cross-section. After that, separate groundings are fixed to the points.
4. Next, they begin to strengthen the devices in the main boxes. Then they take the sockets and fix them in their positions in the socket boxes. Then the pad is installed.
