Who doesn't love the New Year with its special atmosphere of magic, miracles and celebration entering life? Chinese garlands for home decoration both inside and outside are in great demand due to their low price. But their quality does not always allow us to carelessly meet the New Year holidays - sometimes one or more bulbs, or even the whole garland, cease to burn. To prevent such an incident from spoiling the celebration, you can try to fix the LED device with your own hands.

Product composition

LED garland, be it Chinese or domestic, invariably consists of the same elements that allow you to decorate any room for the holiday. Usually, the differences between products from different manufacturers are only in the quality of parts, warranty and durability of the product. The garland consists of the following components:

• The wire. Depending on the type of garland, there may be several of them.

• LEDs. There are garlands with very different combinations of these details, depending on the shape, size, color and quantity.
• Control block. In LED products, this is a mandatory element. Firstly, it contains a controller that regulates the light performance. Secondly, thyristors - one for each wire with lamps of the same color. Thirdly, resistors, capacitor and diode bridges. In more advanced models, there is a fuse that protects the circuit from burnout due to voltage surges.

In addition, the control unit necessarily includes a button for switching light modes.

Damage analysis

When something in the house stops working as expected, it is always not happy, but the garland breaks most of all promises frustration, since almost everything is ready for the celebration, and here such surprise. When buying a Chinese garland, you should remember that, unlike mechanisms from other manufacturers, it is very unreliable and can fail at any time. Its main weak points are as follows:

• Extremely thin wires. They are multi-core, each core is literally as thick as a hair, therefore, it is very difficult and inconvenient to connect them. As well as soldering.
• Frequently failing thyristors. They are responsible for changing the blinking modes, which, in fact, creates a festive mood.
• Light bulbs. Regardless of their type - regular or LED, lamps can burn out. If the garland has stopped flashing, for example, green light, while the others are in order, then, most likely, the green light has fallen into disrepair. But there may also be a disconnection of the wire from the legs of the LED of a certain color.

To detect a malfunction, you need to inspect the garland. If the reason lies in the breakdown of some part, you will have to look for its domestic counterparts. Although it would be better to redo the entire circuit - this way the mechanism will become more reliable and will be able to serve for more than one year.

Trouble-shooting

Considering all the features of Chinese products, it won't take much time to fix a breakdown. But in the future, it is still better to check the holiday attributes in advance so that unpleasant surprises do not catch by surprise on the eve of the holiday.

Before starting repairs, make sure that the product is disconnected from the mains. And you also need to prepare the necessary materials in advance - electrical tape, a multimeter, wire cutters, a knife and others (more specifically, it will be possible to say after the diagnosis of damage).

Wire connection

It is quite easy to find a wire break. It is necessary to carefully examine the garland along its entire length., being careful not to add new damage. If the wire comes off the light bulb on one side, you don't have to worry about soldering and disconnect it from the other contact, and then just twist the two ends together. With a total of 100-500 bulbs, the absence of one will go unnoticed. And although the voltage on the other elements will increase, since it is divided equally in the series circuit, the difference will still be insignificant and will not affect the acceleration of wear of the garland parts.

To connect the two ends, you must first strip them of the insulation. This may be the problem. The fact is that the wire has several very thin cores, which are practically soldered into the insulation. You need to peel off with a knife very carefully so as not to damage them, although one or two will certainly come off or cut off. But this is not critical, without them the garland will also work fine.

The stripped ends are twisted together and wrapped with electrical tape. You can solder and insulate, the main thing is to achieve the relative reliability of the fastening.

Replacing a light bulb

A burned out LED can be calculated with a multimeter. You can buy a replacement for it separately, and remove from the old non-working garland, if any. After that, the new part is soldered into the free space, and the contacts are isolated.

If the wires and bulbs are checked, everything is in order, and the garland still does not work or does not work correctly, then the problem is in the control unit. Perhaps the contacts have broken off or some part has become unusable. In the absence of a fuse - in the cheapest models - parts could burn out during power surges.

Chip repair

In any case, you need to check all the details with a multimeter. If one of them fails, you can act in two ways:

• Find a replacement in stores or on the Internet. To choose the right part, you need to look at the markings on the case and buy the corresponding or similar one.
• Assemble the entire circuit yourself. This is preferable, since you can solder a high-quality product with your own hands, which can last much longer than a Chinese conveyor product. True, this option is already much more complicated and will not work for people who are not involved in electronics.

The scheme of a garland on LEDs looks something like this. It can be improved or simplified. But it is easier, of course, to buy a new garland, if there is such an opportunity.

At the same time, it is better to give preference, if even to Chinese manufacturers, then at least choose not the cheapest option. Products from China are of quite high quality and are much less prone to breakdowns.
