Nikola Tesla transformer: history of creation, main components, principle of operation and diagram

The Tesla Transformer is an incredible device that allows you to see an electrical discharge. The twentieth century, electrical engineering is developing at a tremendous pace, scientists are developing more and more new inventions that are being introduced both in industry and in everyday life. Nikola Tesla is one of the prominent scientists of that time. This man was a century ahead of his era, and his discoveries are still used today. leading companies all over the world. Some of his inventions began to be put into general use only at the beginning of the XXI century.

An excursion into history

Home zipperThe invention of the transformer in 1896 belongs to the very same Nikola Tesla. The main activity of the inventor fell on the end of the 9th - the beginning of the 20th century. The priority areas in which he was engaged were physics and engineering. He was centuries ahead of his time, even modern scientists are amazed at the heights that the inventor was able to reach. Tesla could turn the night over New York into day, for people from this

hair stood on end, and meter sparks flew out from under the horseshoes.

The path that he chose for himself was full of difficulties associated mainly with constantHome lightning created by a transformer looking for investors. Those, in turn, did not want to invest money in his "crazy" ideas. The few who decided to fund his inventions ended up either trying to arrogate to themselves the ownership of his inventions, or stopped funding. Influential industrialists of the time, such as Rockefeller, were not in the hands of electricity to become free.

One of the last projects that Tesla carried out was the construction of the huge Wardencliff Tower. This work was based on a coil previously invented by him. The main purpose of this facility was to transmit electricity across the ocean - to another continent in the same tower. Moreover, both towers had to work in the same resonance. But this experiment was doomed to failure. Funding for the project stopped and Tesla again hit search for money to build your brainchildren.

The scientist died in 1943 at the age of 87 under mysterious circumstances in one of the rooms of a New York hotel. In the last year of his life, he was very sick and practically did not leave the hotel.

Tesla Transformer Components

The main components are primary and secondary winding, guard ring and toroid. A toroid in a structure can perform multiple functions:

  1. Decreases the resonant frequency.
  2. Accumulates energy until it is received by the streamer. In this case, the size of the toroid is taken into account - the larger it is, the more energy is accumulated in it. A chopper is used in the toroid to get more benefit.
  3. In this device, an electrostatic field is generated, which is repelled by the streamer. The secondary winding can replace the toroid in this function.
  4. The main part of the Tesla transformer is the secondary winding. The protective ring is used for protective purposes so as not to damage electrical devices. This part is made of copper wire in the form of a special ring. But also an integral part of protection is grounding. In order for the primary winding to ensure reliable current transmission, its resistance must not be large, and the connection point must have a movable principle. In this case, it becomes possible to change the resonant frequency.

Operating principle

A Tesla coil is a transformer capable of generating high amplitude and high power energy. The device is driven by two coils with a primary winding and a secondary. An alternating voltage is connected to the primary winding, forming a magnetic field that will transfer energy to the secondary winding. An oscillatory circuit is formed on the secondary, accumulating energy for a certain time.

With the help of the secondary oscillatory circuit, the oscillation amplitude is swinging, which at its maximum value becomes equal to the applied force. With free swinging, the maximum value of the amplitude increases with the same efforts, which leads to its multiple increase. The output is a voltage that is hundreds of times greater than the incoming energy. Such is the basic principle Tesla transformer work. The diagram looks like this:

Inventor myths

The main effect produced by a Tesla coil is the transmission of electricity over a distance. On this basis, many experiments were carried out both by the scientist himself during his lifetime, and by many companies and scientists after his death.

But there are several cases and unexplained facts in world science that indirectly lead to Tesla, for example:

  1. The Philadelphia experiment, which took place almost 10 months after the death of the scientist, in which traces of Tesla's experiments are visible.
  2. An electric car that Tesla allegedly demonstrated to the public in 1931. There is no evidence.
  3. Beam weapon. From 1958 to 1982, one of the American agencies had already made a number of attempts to create a weapon, but the project was forced to close due to a number of setbacks with significant budget overruns.
  4. Tunguska meteorite. On June 30, 1908, Nikola Tesla conducted an experiment on the transfer of energy through the air, on the same day the Tunguska phenomenon was observed.

Shortly before his death, Nikola Tesla fell under the wheels of a car and received a fractured ribs. Against the background of complications, pneumonia began, and he went to bed. The scientist deeply worried about the fate of his homeland, occupied in the years of World War II by the fascists, and tried to support those who fought for its independence. Even being deeply ill, Tesla did not let anyone in and was alone in his hotel room. So he died alone of heart failure on the night of January 8, 1943. The body was found only two days after death.
