Main types
There are many different models on the market, but wall switches are in particular demand. They can be classified according to the following criteria:
-
By the method of attachment to the wall: external (this option is used with the so-called external wiring), internal (this the option can be attributed to one of the most common, you can find it absolutely everywhere where you need to connect to power grid).
- By way of connection: equipped with screw cable connections. The disadvantages of this option are the weakening of contacts, which is why they often have to be tightened; sconce switches with conventional clamps - this option is characterized by quick installation and uncomplicated design. In addition, this design is reliable and durable.
Devices with on / off type: rotary, keyboard, push-button, touch, rope and many others.
Subtypes of switches
Each type of switch has its own line of subspecies. On the domestic market, the most common are:
-
Rotary switches. They can be called an ancient invention, because they were invented at the beginning of the last century. Such devices are distinguished by quality, reliability and durability. Basically, they are used by fans of retro style.
- Keyboard samples. Such models are the most common on the market. Their advantages include simplicity, which is very important for people. These switches have a maximum of three buttons. However, there are also exclusive models, for example, with five buttons that turn on and off different bulbs.
- Pushbutton switches. This mechanism is used throughout. Their construction is very simple. It consists of a sliding mechanism with a spring and a contact. Thus, when pressed, the contact closes and opens, thereby turning the light bulb or lights on and off. It is worth mentioning a push-button switch for an ordinary table lamp. This mechanism is also very convenient and easy to use.
- Sensory pattern. We can confidently say that this is an innovative way to control light. It was based on microcircuits, and the main feature of such a switch can be considered the absence of buttons. The device is absolutely safe, there will be no short circuit when using it. In addition, the wear rates of the sensor are very low. In order to turn on the lamp, it is enough to lightly touch its panel.
- Sconce switch with chain (or rope switch). This option is the most unusual, it is used only where other switches cannot be used. The device is a cord with which you can control the sconce.
- Rope model. It works on the same principle as a push-button. With the first tension, the luminaire is turned on, and with the second, it is turned off. Such a device is mounted mainly on lamps that are installed on the wall. Instead of a cord, you can see a beautiful chain, which, in addition to its main function, also serves as a decorative one.

Ceiling light switch. Equipped with a rope. The device is rather outdated, but despite this, it has not lost its relevance for many years.
Connection options
There are also a lot of options for connecting the sconce to the network using switches. The choice of method largely depends on the model of the device used:
-
Connections by means of a switch on the wall. If the luminaire is connected with a wall switch, then the wires must be connected to it inside the wall, by means of a slitting method or by a channel. Thus, the wires will not be visible.
- Direct connection. In fact, this is the same first option, but with one significant difference - the device is located not in the wall, but in the luminaire itself. First you need to screw on a special plate for fasteners near the place where the wiring comes out. After that, you need to connect all the wires together. Be sure to isolate them.
- Plug connection. Everything is extremely simple here - you need to attach the switch to the plug with a wire.
Also, devices are subdivided according to the type of control. These are keyboard and pushbutton switches for sconces. Such devices do not spoil the repair, since they do not need a gasket in the internal wiring when using them.
The devices can be placed anywhere.
