Types of lamps
It is necessary to choose lamps that look attractive even with the bulbs turned off. The following devices are used in modern interiors:
-
Incandescent lamps. They are more comfortable for vision than all other types of lamps, but uneconomical. No more than 30% of their power is spent on lighting, and the rest is converted into heat energy. It will always be stuffy in a room with a lot of incandescent lamps.
- Luminescent. They are distinguished by a long service life and low power consumption. The current generation of energy saving lamps does not heat up. They give cold light, which somewhat distorts the shades of objects.
- LED. Long lasting and durable, LED bulbs last 80 times longer than incandescent bulbs. They do not contain infrared and ultraviolet radiation harmful to humans, but they are rarely used as an independent source, since their light output is low. LEDs serve as decorative illumination of furniture, countertops, bar counters.
- Halogen. Long-lasting lamps give a narrow beam of light and are more suitable for illuminating specific areas. Interior elements - columns, niches, sculptural groups, paintings - are also illuminated with halogen and metal halide lamps.
- Optical fiber. Flexible and durable cable that does not transmit electricity, but light flux. Fiber optic illumination is now gaining more and more popularity. With the help of light strips, they create fantastic spectacular compositions. They can be mounted anywhere: on windows, walls, ceilings. The wire is absolutely safe, it does not heat up during operation. The service life reaches 20 years.
Room decoration options
If there are no special requirements and tasks, classic combinations of lighting in the room will do. Light fixture placement options:
-
Living room. There should be constant lighting here. If the hall is used as an office or dining room, additional lighting above the table is required. Above the coffee table, a sconce or a tall floor lamp on a curved tripod is sufficient.
- Kitchen. General lighting is not necessary in the kitchen; it plays a decorative role here. A pendant lamp is required above the dining table. Directional illumination of the working area and decorative illumination built around the perimeter of the kitchen set are mandatory. For the stove, it is necessary to organize local lighting in the form of a lamp built into the hood of the hood.
- Bedroom. General and working (on different sides of the bed) lighting, sconces and a lamp on a long suspension. As a decorative lighting, an LED strip is used, sewn to the cornices or attached to a tall wardrobe. Bright light is inappropriate in the bedroom, it does not contribute to relaxation before bed.
- Bathroom. Both general and work lighting are needed here. In the area where the mirror is installed, lamps are hung on the sides of it. Decorative lighting is built in under the skirting board or along the bottom of the furniture. Nowadays, many functional devices with ready-made, built-in lighting are produced for bathrooms: showers, hydromassage baths.
Original lighting ideas
Now designers use multilevel lighting in their work, which divides the space into functional zones. There are 4 levels of lighting:
- top (for chandeliers and sconces);
- average (lamps and floor lamps);
- bottom (local highlights);
- internal (for lighting furniture and dressing rooms).
In order to organize multi-level zoning, special knowledge and skills are not required. Any owner can transform the appearance of his apartment using a variety of lighting devices. It is necessary to adhere to the combination of lamps on the floor and walls.
Another new idea of lighting in an apartment is decorative lighting using LED strips. It is easy to assemble, easy to operate, attaches to wooden furniture, walls, cornices. It is used if it is necessary to make the light in the apartment more subdued.
One of the types of decorative lighting is neon lighting using a variety of Led-devices. They are installed mainly in suspended ceilings, plasterboard niches. You can integrate a flexible tube or cord with neon light.
Glass blocks used in Soviet times have now been improved. The decorative lighting built into them allows you to make a spectacular wall or door. Such glass blocks are becoming very popular in the interior.
To give the room an unusual look, you can use the lighting built into the floor. They use LED strip, spotlights, duralight (decorative cord).
In the construction of private houses, "twilight switches" are increasingly used - light sensors. The device automatically controls the light sources. With the help of this system, energy costs are significantly reduced, because the bulbs only burn where they are really needed.
Wireless lighting works on the same principle. It can be organized using a panel, inside of which glowing elements are mounted. These panels are completely mobile, which allows them to be installed anywhere in the room.
