Location in the kitchen
Besides saving space, one of the main advantages dishwashers is a time saver for apartment owners. It is especially difficult to wash the dishes by hand after a busy day of work or holidays with many guests. In addition to saving time and effort, water consumption is significantly reduced, which reduces the cost of paying utility bills.
Considering all this, the presence of a dishwasher brings many positive points for its acquisition. Calling a wizard to install and connect the device does not always entail justified monetary costs. To save money, you can install the built-in dishwasher yourself. To do this, it is enough to take a responsible approach to the process and competently perform all its stages.
Before purchasing equipment, you should decide where it will be located, as well as the availability of all required communications: electricity, water supply and sewerage.
A freestanding one can be placed as a separate module or combined with a kitchen set, having correctly selected its dimensions and color. Alternatively, they are placed inside the kitchen cabinet or mounted under the countertop.
This type of equipment is purchased in cases of space saving and in order not to disturb the overall interior of the kitchen. Outer part similar machines can be hidden behind decorative facades, and the body is located inside the kitchen unit.
The dimensions of built-in dishwashers are fixed: 820 mm height, 550 mm depth, 450-600 mm width. So that when installing the devices there are no difficulties and the need to change the size of the furniture, manufacturers reduce the dimensions of the machine by a few millimeters, and boxes for such equipment are produced also with a margin. As a rule, each model has its own separate passport, which indicates the requirements and installation steps, but you need to know the general rules for the installation of these devices:
-
The locations for making holes on the housing are indicated in the installation diagrams.
- To ensure good ventilation, a free space of at least 50 mm must be left behind the back of the dishwasher.
- The control panel is located on the side of the device.
- Fitting to the box and setting the level of the device is carried out using the height-adjusting feet.
- The mounting brackets, which are included with the dishwasher, will help to firmly fix its position in the box.
Installation and connection
Installing a built-in dishwasher is a responsible process, but knowing the intricacies of each stage these works can be installed on their own, which will save money on the call specialists. The technical data sheet, which is included with the dishwasher, can help with the installation process. Having chosen a dishwasher of the required dimensions, you should have all required tools and materials:
- Building level, tape measure, beacons.
- A set of screwdrivers, pliers and an adjustable wrench.
- Water inlet and outlet hoses, cleaning filters and siphon (if not included with the dishwasher).
- Corrugation, nipple, drainage box, sewer tee, angle faucet, sanitary tow or other thread seal.
- Separate socket with earthing contact and 3-core 1.5 mm cable.
After purchasing all the necessary materials, you can start installing the device. You should carefully consider each stage of installation work in order to avoid premature failure of the device or problems with plumbing.
Power line creation
To connect the dishwasher, a separate earthed socket is required, located at a height of 350 mm from the floor. The socket must be grounded and of good quality. In order not to load the kitchen power supply, it is advisable to install a separate 16A machine in the electrical panel for connecting only the dishwasher.
Water connection
For uninterrupted water supply, the machine requires installation on a cold water riser branches. It is created using a metal or plastic tee (depending on the material of the plumbing). The presence of a ball valve on the tee allows you to work with replacing the dishwasher hose without the need to completely shut off the water supply in the apartment. A tidal hose is connected to the resulting branch. It is important to have a filter in it, otherwise the blockage formed in the water-heating part of the machine can lead to its breakdown.
As a temporary measure, you can use the connection of the tide hose directly to the mixer tap, but in this case it will not be possible to use it during the cycle of the machine. Nevertheless, this method can be used as long as there is no good connection to the riser.
Sewer connection
If connected incorrectly, sewer odors may enter the machine, or all the water will flow out of it, which will lead to a breakdown. An insufficiently strong water drainage connection threatens to drain water onto the kitchen floor. To avoid these problems, you need to be extremely careful about the process of connecting the drain to the sewer.
Exists two ways how to do it:
- Installing a siphon is the safest and most reliable connection method and protects against unpleasant odors inside the machine. This requires replacing the standard siphon on the sink with a model with an additional connection to which the drain hose is connected. It is important that there are no kinks on the hose, otherwise the pump of the machine may break. The connection points must be firmly secured with a clamp.
- There are situations when the dishwasher is far from the sink and the length of the drain hose is not enough. It is forbidden to lengthen it, since an increased load on the drain pump of the machine will lead to damage. In this case, an oblique tee is cut into the sewer pipe, into which the water drainage hose is inserted. Installing an anti-siphon valve will prevent unpleasant odors from getting inside the machine, and creating on the lifting and lowering hose will eliminate the possibility of sewage water entering the working chamber dishwashers.
Installing the machine in a worktop
After the work on the installation of the outlet, as well as the supply and drainage of water, is completed, you can proceed with the installation of the dishwasher in the countertop. At the end of the level adjustment, a test run should be carried out, which will show the rate of water filling, the level of its heating, the quality of drying and drainage. All possible leaks on the joints are eliminated with a plumbing fum-tape or other sealant. You should pay attention to the quality of the water drain, it must go completely. If this does not happen, you need to pay attention to whether there are any kinks or incorrect positioning of the drain hose on the level.
If no problems are found, you can build the equipment into a kitchen set. The facade and decorative door are fixed with fasteners according to the diagrams indicated in the templates that come with the machine.
Operating tips
In order for the dishwasher to work without interruptions and emergencies, it is advisable to observe installer recommendations these devices. Remember:
- The worktop and dishwasher must be on the same level.
- If the base of the cabinetry is to support the appliance, it must be solid.
- The length of the drain hose should not be more than 2.5 meters, otherwise the pump will work with increased load and will quickly fail. If the hose is kinked, the water will not drain completely.
- To keep the kitchen set from moisture, the inner walls of the case must be pasted over with a vapor barrier.
Even if you are confident in the knowledge of how to install an embedded dishwasher with your own hands, you should not forget that this is a device powered by electricity. Considering this, it is forbidden to connect the device through extension cords or bad sockets. To prevent electric shock during operation of this equipment, a ground connection is required. It is important to ensure that no water gets on the outlet or plug of the appliance.
