How to mount a socket in a concrete wall: preparatory work and installation of the device

In old houses, a situation often arises when many electrical appliances are connected from one outlet through an extension cord. This problem is quite common, it entails a violation of fire safety techniques. Install new or replace old sockets. This can be done during the next repair. Installation requires special care and certain skills.

Preparatory work

Before installation, prepare all the necessary materials and tools. You need to choose the right place where it will be convenient to insert the outlet and use it in the future. It is best to draw a diagram that will indicate all the installation locations, as well as the wiring lines. It must be remembered that in living rooms, installation is usually carried out at a height of 30 cm from the floor. For bathrooms, corridors and utility rooms, the height is chosen for practical reasons.

When laying the wiring, you should adhere to some recommendations:

1. The cable should run approximately 20 cm from the ceiling.
2. The wires should be located only in a horizontal or vertical position. Regulatory documentation prohibits diagonal routing. Also, you can not make zigzags and connect wires by means of twists.
3. The minimum distance between the gas pipe and the wiring must be 35 cm.

To make a socket in the wall, you need certain materials and tools. This will allow the installation work to be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible. List of required tools:

1. A device that can be used to create a strobe. A regular grinder and a concrete disc will do.
2. Perforator. It is needed in order to drill out the sockets.
3. Bit for concrete.
4. Knife, pliers and screwdriver.
5. Winning drill.
6. Putty knife.
7. Roulette.
8. Pencil.

Of the materials, you will directly need the outlet itself, wires and a socket outlet. You will also need plaster or alabaster to complete the finishing. At the end, you will need to open everything with a primer. After selecting tools and materials, it is necessary to make markings on the wall. It is required to mark the location of the wires and holes for the socket. For this, a tape measure and a pencil are usually used. If in the future it is planned to install additional modules, then it is advisable to maintain the distance between the mounted devices. The average size of the sockets is 7 cm.

Making holes

The holes in the wall are required to install the socket box. The device itself is mounted inside the socket. You can make holes in three ways:

1. Use a bit designed for concrete.
2. Apply a grinder.
3. A hammer drill or an impact drill. It is advisable to take victory drills.

A crown is a special device designed to make holes of the required diameter. Usually put on a hammer drill.

The cutters are diamond-coated. You can also use winder tips. The material of this device has high strength, which makes it easy to cut through any material. The holes are perfectly round. A drill is located in the center of the crown, with the help of which centering occurs.

It must be remembered that the diameter of the nozzle should be slightly larger than the dimensions of the mounted socket. The drill is installed at the required point on the wall, and the immersion of the device begins. After the end of the cut, it is necessary to hollow out the concrete.

If there is no special nozzle, then all the work can be done with a victorious drill. For this, it is better to use a puncher. A high-quality and powerful drill with an impact function is also well suited. It is necessary to drill holes along the entire circumference with a minimum step. Remains of concrete are removed with a chisel and hammer.

The grinder is not the best way to accomplish this task. It should only be used when the required tool is not available. You need to take a diamond disc on concrete. Draw a square or rectangle with the required dimensions on the wall. 4 cuts are made, and then the concrete is squeezed out inside the contour.

Sizing

After making the hole, you should check how suitable it is for the design of the socket outlet. There are usually no problems with the width, since the crown was taken for work with a larger diameter. The main thing is to adjust the hole to the required depth. The structure should be immersed in the niche by about 0.5 mm.

The stock is needed due to the fact that the fixing material will fit, for example, alabaster or plaster solution. Also, some space will be occupied by the bend of the cable, which will fit the outlet.

Adjusting the depth allows you to make sure that the built-in socket box is completely hidden in the hole. For convenience, you can cut off the outer skirt of the structure. This will make it much easier to install the outlet in the required plane. If the skirt is not cut or sunk into the wall, there will be a small gap of about 1 mm between the decorative frame.

Wiring

Wiring is one of the most important steps. It is required to do everything correctly to exclude the possibility of a short circuit. This work is carried out in several stages:

1. The cable must be checked for various defects.
2. The cover is removed from the junction box.
3. Wire the wires into the box from different sides. In the future, this will make it more convenient to make new connections. The cable should be wound with a small margin.
4. A strobe for the wire is performed. If the wall is made of soft material, you can use a chisel hammer or chisel.
5. When laying the cable, you need to make additional protection. The wire runs into a corrugated pipe.
6. You can fix the cord with alabaster mortar. It is better to choose the maximum step for this in 250 mm.
7. All remaining defects are covered with putty.

Plaster of Paris can also be used for fixation. To prepare the solution, the base must be poured into a container, and then gradually add water. The resulting mixture should be of medium density. It must be consumed as quickly as possible, since after a few minutes the solution will begin to solidify.

Installation and finishing of the socket box

The first step is to turn off the electricity supply to the apartment. All interfering elements must be cut off. The hole in the wall is carefully primed. This is necessary to increase the level of adhesion. Further, you should perform the actions in this order:

1. In the box, you need to squeeze out the element through which the wire will be fed.
2. The fixing solution is applied to the entire surface of the socket, which will be in contact with the wall.
3. The structure is installed and aligned to the level of the wall.
4. The horizontalness can be checked with a level.
5. The solution that has entered the box is removed.

If you need to mount several sockets, then the socket boxes are fastened to each other using a constructive adapter. This element is called a connector or a butterfly. There are special grooves on the side of the structure, thanks to which several boxes are fastened. Execution order:

1. It is necessary to make a cut in the wall immediately for all future sockets.
2. Then, you need to cut through the connecting grooves. This is easy to accomplish with a grinder.
3. A cable is inserted into one hole.
4. The rest of the work is carried out in the same way as with one outlet.

Finishing can only be started after the fixing solution has completely solidified. If this is done earlier, then there will be a great risk of displacement of the entire structure.

First you need to prime all visible defects twice. Then, after the wall has dried, the surface is putty. Next, another layer of primer and topcoat are applied.

Fittings installation

After completing all finishing work, you should start installing the outlet directly. Before starting, you need to make sure that there is no power in the network. It is advisable to disconnect the entire apartment from the power supply at the switchboard. The cable is connected depending on the type of device. The socket can be screw or spring.

First you need to prepare the wires. For this, the outer insulation of the electrical cable must be removed. At the ends, each of the cores is stripped by about 10-15 mm. They should be well twisted and directed to the terminals of the mechanism. The ground (usually yellow-green) is connected through the center terminal.

Certain skills are required to work with electricity. It is undesirable for non-specialists to get down to business. But if you have at least basic qualifications and the necessary tool, then the whole process can be done independently. The main thing is to observe safety precautions.

Safety engineering

The installation of all electrical devices must be carried out in compliance with certain rules. This will avoid unpleasant consequences, for example, electric shock or short circuit. Basic safety rules:

1. All work must be performed only in de-energized rooms. The wire is connected last.
