The essence of the electrical safety group

It testifies to the level of professionalism of the personnel involved in the maintenance of various energy facilities. The assignment of a category is considered one of the basic norms in assessing a master. This procedure is mandatory in the following situations:

• when improving the qualifications of an employee;
• upon admission to a new job;
• upon granting the admission of a new employee to service an electric power facility.

The knowledge testing process is necessary to confirm the assigned qualifications of the master. If the exam is passed well, a category corresponding to the competence of the test taker is assigned. The composition of the commission is determined by the level of knowledge of the specialist.

Categories of specialists

Regardless of how many electrical safety groups there are, professional categories differ in several ways. For example, the electrical category includes several subcategories:

1. Administrative and technical - it includes managers responsible for organizing maintenance of facilities, equipment operation (including adjustment and repair). The clearance of the responsible manager is assigned no lower than that of his subordinate personnel.
2. Operational - this personnel includes specialists who are involved in the maintenance of the organization's electrical equipment. And also the scope of tasks includes inspection and rearrangement with further preparation of the workplace (including the installation of portable grounding, de-energizing the facility and the placement of warning signs).
3. Repair - this category of personnel is assigned to specific areas (for example, a workshop electrician specializing in servicing a specific type of equipment).

The listed categories of employees must have a tolerance group of at least 3 if the work will be carried out with a voltage of up to 1000 V. To work with equipment at a higher voltage, a minimum of the 4th group of electrical safety approval is required.

Non-electrical includes the rest of the staff, including the cleaning staff, who are responsible for keeping order in the machine shops. Anyone who, by the nature of their work, is capable of encountering equipment capable of causing an electric shock, fall on this list.

This category of personnel receives 1 admission group and means that the employee must have minimal knowledge of the field of electrical engineering and safety rules necessary to perform duties without risking life and health.

Principles of granting admission

Certification in the field of knowledge of electrical safety standards is carried out with each employee of the organization and enterprise as part of their professional activities. Not a single specialist will be allowed to perform duties without a qualification group. The procedure for assigning admission is carried out according to the rules specified in the PTEEP or specialized technical literature containing extracts from the regulatory documentation.

Five levels of security competence are known:

• Group 1 - assigned to personnel using non-special equipment (household and office equipment, MFP, etc.) ) All workers who, by the nature of their work, are faced with the possibility of electric shock, belong to those who are assigned 1 group for electrical safety without fail. To get it, the employee answers the examiner's questions. The first category is established for all personnel without taking into account special education and experience. This is because the employer is obliged to reduce the risks of accidents at work. The worker should have initial knowledge of the handling of the equipment. He necessarily shows the skills of first aid.
• Group 2 - assigned to employees involved in the maintenance of electrical installations with electric drives (welders, elevators, truck drivers, electricians and electricians). Theoretical lessons are 72 hours of lectures, after which the knowledge gained is checked by the employer or Rostechnadzor. In this case, the employee must have an experience of at least 2 months. He must have 1 category of admission and a sufficient amount of knowledge about the nature of the functioning of the electrical installations with which he has to work. The ability to provide medical care in case of electric shock is mandatory for an employee with 2 qualification groups for electrical safety. The staff of the electrical department is certified for this category without technical education and experience. The staff of the non-electrical department is qualified if it was previously involved in the maintenance of electrical installations.
• Group 3 - assigned only to the electrical category of employees with more than a month of work experience, after receiving the second group of electrical safety. This qualification allows an employee to independently inspect, maintain, connect / disconnect power facilities that are energized from 1 kV. Persons who own the second level of electrical safety are admitted to certification. The employee is obliged to know the device and the principle of functioning of electrical devices, ways to eliminate their malfunctions. If there is a 3 electrical safety group, a specialist is allowed to work with installations under a voltage of 1 kV.
• Group 4 - assigned by the attestation commission if there is a third group. To previous knowledge, personnel with 4 categories of electrical safety, it is required to know the principles of fire extinguishing and be able to instruct junior personnel. Mandatory experience is at least 3 months in the presence of the third category of admission. The employee must have specialized education (at least 2 months). This employee can issue orders and orders for the implementation of manipulations with installations with a voltage of more than 1 kV. He has the right to hold the position of responsible for electrical engineering.
• Group 5 - assigned to those responsible for the electrical economy, as well as to persons belonging to the engineering and technical department (for equipment with a voltage of more than 1 kV). The minimum knowledge for an employee is considered: reading diagrams, understanding the principles of functioning equipment, fire and electrical safety standards, knowledge of the content of state standards and standards. Mandatory work experience is at least 1 year with the fourth admission group, or at least 24 months if you have a higher education in the profile. The employee must have experience in managing the enterprise and the ability to train employees.

When certification is passed

The process of passing the regulatory attestation for the skill group is mandatory. Certification is carried out in the following cases:

• at the end of the validity period of the previous group. The validity period for electrical safety admission up to 1000 kV and above is 1 year after receiving certification for workers and 3 years for engineering and technical personnel;
• in the event that an employee moves up the career ladder in this organization (if the specifics of responsibilities differ);
• when changing jobs.

The assigned category is indicated in the attestation protocol and the corresponding certificate is issued.

Peculiarities of issuing an identity card

There are situations in which the issuance of a qualification certificate becomes impossible:

• if the period of certification of persons with categories 2-4 is overdue (they are automatically equated to category 1 before the next certification);
• minors are prohibited from issuing category 2 admission;
• Category 4 electrical safety approval is assigned only to those who have a production experience of 3 years or more.

The assignment of an electrical safety admission group is a serious event for specialists. Special skills and theoretical knowledge in the field of handling electrical equipment increase the skill of the employee and eliminate industrial accidents. Without a certificate of assignment of an admission group, a specialist cannot be hired for a new job.
