The fashion for arched openings and curved niches in the interior has led to the emergence of several methods of deformation of drywall sheets. To properly bend such material, it is highly advisable to have experience handling it or carefully follow the descriptions of bending methods. In a hurry, craftsmen often forget about the fundamental principles of working with drywall, because of which the sheets break, and the paper is torn on them.

If it happened for the first time to bend drywall, you should not be too lazy and fill your hand on unnecessary cuts, and then after several successful attempts to switch to the finish option.
Any product will become worthless if you try to bend it in width. Regardless of the method, bending is allowed only along the length of the sheet. It should be borne in mind that a sheet with a thickness of 6-6.5 mm is ideal for bending. For such products, the core is reinforced with fiberglass, they cost an order of magnitude more expensive than ordinary ones, and they need to be laid out in two layers.

To quickly cope with the work, many resort to the dry method of bending. When you need to give a slight bend, the main mistake is that the person neglects the help of a partner. Even with a good template and experience with drywall, you can severely damage the material.

When you need to make a strong bend, use incisions. The main mistake that is often made is to completely cut drywall, leaving only paper on the back. It is correct to leave 1-3 mm to the reverse side. If you need to make the angle smaller, you should make U-shaped cuts or cut it in the form of the letter V.

Very beautiful bends can be achieved if you slightly moisten a sheet of drywall. Since this material is not friendly with moisture, it is with this type of bending that most errors are made. Some believe that the more moisture applied to drywall, the better it will be impregnated and the greater elasticity it will gain. The main thing in this method is not the amount of moisture, but the uniformity of impregnation of the material. If the top paper absorbs too much liquid, it just starts to creep out.
For proper bending, it is necessary to prepare a needle roller and make small holes on the surface of drywall and only after that moisten the material with brushes or a roller. To obtain good flexibility, you need to wait 10-15 minutes until the moisture is absorbed. After this, you can give the drywall the desired shape, fix it with tape and leave to dry. For some, this process is delayed for a long time, because people forget to ventilate the room after wetting the sheets. In no case should you wet the drywall on both sides. In some cases, even a dry 15 minutes moist gypsum board can start to crack due to the fact that it was initially declared by the manufacturer as moisture resistant. In this case, you need to increase the time of impregnation with moisture up to 25 minutes.
