Violations of the technology when laying foam blocks on a cement mortar, most often arise due to ignorance of the process or attempts to save on construction. Reluctance to comply with building codes governing the procedure for such work can lead to the destruction of the building.

For a bunch of foam blocks during construction, it is necessary to use a cement mortar and a special adhesive composition based on sand concrete. Due to the characteristics of the material, foam blocks have certain deformation parameters when exposed to external air temperature. Unknowingly, many builders use masonry cement mortar prepared by conventional technology. However, this is not recommended. The difference in the processes of changing the internal structure of cement and foam blocks will inevitably lead to the destruction of the masonry layer and loss of wall strength. To prevent this from happening, you need to follow a few rules:
- Cement mortar should be used only for laying the first row of foam blocks. This will align all possible differences in the height of the foundation. To prepare the solution, sand should be sieved. Lumps or small stones falling into the solution violate the strength of the solution. When laying all subsequent rows of foam blocks, you need to use only a specially designed adhesive mixture based on sand concrete. Its characteristics fully comply with the requirements for working with this type of material;
- The thickness of the mortar layer does not need to be done more than 10-15 mm. Therefore, the solution on the blocks is best applied only with a notched trowel or a special carriage. This method allows you to withstand the required layer thickness. The mixture should be applied not only to the horizontal, but also to the sides of the foam block. If this is not done, condensation will accumulate in the vertical gaps between the blocks, which will lead to the destruction of the wall in the winter season;
- It is necessary to insulate the seams between the blocks. To do this, the adhesive solution should not be applied closer than 2 cm from the edges of the block. After the construction of the entire wall, the space between the blocks should be filled with foamed polyethylene. Such a method will avoid the formation of cold bridges that contribute to the release of heat from the house and prevent freezing of walls in the winter;
- When purchasing foam blocks, you should pay attention to their labeling. For the erection of the walls of buildings, only blocks of a structural type are used. They are designed for increased loads and have a high material density. Heat-insulating foam concrete blocks are used only in accordance with its name. It is impossible to lay bearing walls out of them.
