Usually, the owners do not opt for paint for the bathroom, believing that traditional tiles will look best in this room. This statement is true, but areas that do not come in direct contact with water may well be painted. It will be faster and cheaper, and the style can be created with the most original.

The better to paint
You can paint the walls in the bathroom, but not the first paint you get. The choice of material, as well as the rules for its use, must be taken very carefully. From the conditions of use, it becomes clear that a waterproof paint is selected, but not any. The following types of water-based paints are best suited for the bathroom:
- Acrylic
- Latex;
- Silicone
The first two types are easy to apply, quick to dry and easy to clean. They differ slightly in the composition of the base, but in terms of characteristics they are almost identical, and dividing them into two types is only a ploy of marketers.
Silicone paint combines all the advantages of acrylic and latex, in addition, it is steam-tight, resistant to fungus, mechanical stress and more durable. For the bathroom, it is most preferable, but only a high price can push away.
If you do not paint the walls, but the ceiling without cracks, then you can take silicate paint. It creates a translucent effect, while being environmentally friendly and well protects against mold.

What you do not need to paint
But some types of paints for the bathroom are not suitable. These are paints such as:
- Oil;
- Chlorinated rubber;
- Alkyd.
These paints form a film on the surface that does not allow air to pass through, which will necessarily lead to mold growth. The room will always have a smell of dampness, especially if the bathroom is small.
Oil and alkyd paints are not suitable for work inside the building also because they have an unpleasant odor that is difficult to remove even after a few weeks. And you need to work with them using personal protective equipment.

If over time you have to remove the old coating, then the oil paint can only be removed together with the wall. You will have to heat the wall with a construction hairdryer or grind it with a grinder.
Water-based paint can be used in the bathroom, but there is a look with the addition of PVA glue. This type is not suitable for wet rooms, as it is intended only for dry walls. Sometimes it can be used on the ceiling, but provided that condensation does not form on it.
When using any paint in the bathroom, one must remember that it will not last forever. After some time, the repair will have to be updated. Of course, the walls next to the sink and the bathroom itself are best finished with tiles or PVC panels, and you can paint the distant walls. This way you can save a lot on tile laying.
