Often, repairs require replacement only of the platbands or their temporary dismantling. In this case, in order not to damage the decorativeness of the door frame, you need to act carefully and measuredly. Otherwise, the door will also have to be changed. How to do this, consider in more detail.
Technology for removing fasteners mounted on fasteners
Before dismantling platbands, it is necessary to find out by what method they were installed. There are several main ways:
- On decorative brass studs;
- On ordinary small nails followed by putty with special mastic;
- On self-tapping screws with subsequent disguise as furniture hats or putty;
- On liquid nails.

If the platbands were mounted on nails, they can be removed as follows:
- A strong flat and thin tool is used - a knife will do;
- The knife starts between the box and the platband next to the nail;
- Platband slowly wringes out of the box;
- This is done around the entire perimeter of the platbands.
It is important to observe the force of pressure. If you overdo it, then you can break the platband and deform the box. After doing such actions, the clypeus itself easily moves away from the jamb.
Another thing is if the door trim strips were set on self-tapping screws. The first thing to do is remove the disguise. It’s good if these are furniture hats. It will be much more difficult to get to the fasteners if it is covered with a special putty. It must first be removed. This is best done with emery. If you plan to still use platbands, you need to do everything carefully so as not to spoil their surface. Then you can easily remove the screws.

Ways to gently remove platbands glued to liquid nails
Things are much more complicated if the platband was glued to liquid nails. By itself, such building glue sets for a long time. But, you can defeat him. This will require a building hairdryer, knife and patience. With a knife, the platband slowly moves away from the box, and the adhesive layer warms up with a hairdryer. When it softens, you can push the platband harder until it completely leaves the wall.
You can also remove the platband using "brute force":
- It is necessary to insert a metal sheet into the gap between the box and the casing;
- Slowly pushing the platband, saw through the glue.

The process is short-lived, but requires some accuracy. A couple of millimeters are sawed off from the removed platband. This allows you to reuse it. Remains of glue on the wall should also be removed carefully. And it’s better to just close them with a new platband so as not to damage the wall decoration.
