The walls built in country houses, as a rule, are laid out in several layers. However, sometimes owners are wondering about the possibility of saving materials by building walls of smaller thickness. That is why, recently so often there are walls in suburban buildings, the thickness of which does not exceed 200 mm blocks or 250 mm bricks.

Load
The design standards regulate the minimum possible indicators of wall thickness. A house whose height does not exceed 3 meters is required to have a wall thickness of at least 120 mm. The established limitations are explained by the fact that the load-bearing walls are subjected to significant loads of both vertical and horizontal types. The first includes the mass of the wall and all structures located above it, and the horizontal load arises from the wind flow.

Among other things, the wall is subject to torques. They arise from the uneven pressure of the ceiling or facade.
The widespread multiple of 250 mm does not have enough headroom for heavy loads. That is why such a thickness should have a calculated justification. Any incompleteness in the design can lead to deformation or destruction. In addition, a thin wall is more sensitive to errors made during the construction process.

We can say with confidence that the wall thickness multiple of 200-250 mm will be very justified for a single-story building or upper floors. The use of such parameters to create a multi-story structure makes sense only if the show is accurately calculated or spelled out in the project used.

It is important to take into account factors such as soil characteristics and the level of skill of builders. If there is no confidence in these points, then you should not risk it. It is better to give preference to a wall thickness of 350 mm.
In order to strengthen the stability and strength of an already finished structure with thin walls, it is possible to build a monolithic "belt" of reinforced concrete. It is installed on the outside of each wall, as well as around the internal load-bearing. Floor slabs can be additionally equipped with metal joints.

The choice of insufficient thickness for the walls of the house can carry a big risk, especially if this decision is not provided for by the construction project.
