How to paint a brick wall

Not plastered brick walls in the interior look very beautiful, the fashion for them returns again. However, the surface of the brick wall in its original form can not be attributed to the "ideal", so many prefer to paint it in the color of the interior.

The technology of painting brick walls, although it does not differ in particular complexity, but, nevertheless, requires careful preparation of the foundation. In addition, it is important to choose the right paint for these purposes, which will guarantee the high-quality and durable finish.

What paint to use for brick walls?

For painting brick walls, you should use acrylic or mineral paints. They allow the wall surface to "breathe", which will serve as a guarantee of the formation of a favorable and comfortable microclimate in the room.

You can paint a brick wall and oil paint. In this case, the brick surface will have good water repellent properties. However, oil paints have a very unpleasant odor, and their use inside the living room is not recommended by many experts.

Preparation of the base for painting

Before you start painting a brick wall, you should perform a number of preparatory measures. In order for the selected paint to lie well on the brick surface, and have maximum adhesion with it, any dirt must be removed from the base.

For these purposes, a soap solution is best suited, which is applied to the wall with a hard brush, and then washed off with ordinary water. It is imperative that the surface be inspected for any defects before this. It is better to immediately eliminate serious chips or drops on it, using a gypsum starting putty for this.

How to paint a brick wall?

To paint a brick surface with paint, it is better to use a wide paint brush, at least 6 cm wide. Only in this case will it be possible to paint the brick wall evenly and without extra passes.

You can, of course, use a roller for these purposes, but then the seams between the bricks will have to be additionally tinted with a paint brush. It is best to start painting the wall from the top corner, gradually moving down and to the side of it.

As a rule, two layers of paint will be enough to paint a brick wall. In this case, before applying the second layer to the wall, the first layer of paint material must dry well.
