Not so long ago, there was no choice as such - sand-cement mix was universally used for tile laying. Particularly advanced specialists mixed various kinds of dubious adhesive compositions into the solution, which were not at all intended for this purpose. The tile, of course, glued well, but did not last long.
Today there are no problems with the assortment, on the contrary - the consumer is concerned with the question - how to choose the right glue for tiles, for example, floor. Below we will try to answer this question.

There is no universal glue
More precisely, there is something similar on sale, but experienced craftsmen ignore such things, trying to choose an adhesive mixture suitable for a particular job.
When choosing glue, they are usually guided by such factors:
- Sizes of tiles.
- The type of surface the tile will hold on.
- Operating conditions for the tiled surface.
At the heart of any adhesive composition for tiles is the same old good sand-cement mortar. True, better and with the addition of various useful plasticizers and other chemicals that provide strong adhesion to the surface, long service life, and other necessary properties.
Basic adhesive for working with ceramic tiles
They are divided into three types:
- Cement based glue;
- Epoxy adhesives;
- Dispersion adhesives.
The first option is the familiar, “classic” one. In addition to sand and cement, it includes various kinds of latex and polymer additives that give the solution certain properties. Such mixtures are inexpensive and quite popular among consumers, as they do their job well.

Epoxy glue - an expensive thing, but very reliable. Not afraid of frost, moisture or heat. It is not always possible to beat off the tile glued to the epoxy even with a puncher - unless with a piece of the base.

Dispersion adhesives are slightly cheaper than epoxy adhesives, but not by much. Their main advantage is very good ductility. Therefore, such glue is indispensable when laying tiles on a "playing" base - for example, on a wooden floor or wall.

Specifically for floor tiles, it is better to take dispersion glue, as it has high elasticity. If you are constrained by finances, you can choose a cheaper analogue of cement mixes - the content of plasticizers and elastanes is indicated on the package.
For the floor, however, as well as for tiling other surfaces with ceramic tiles, gray mixtures are bought. If you plan to lay white tiles on the floor, you need white glue so as not to spoil the appearance of the lined surface, especially if the tile is translucent.
