When building a house, an important role is played by the choice of the rafter system. In the further operation of the entire building, it will serve as a guarantee of the reliability of the entire roof. A gable roof is more complicated than a layered system. In this case, the outer walls serve as load-bearing walls, and the rafters rest with their feet on them.

The hanging rafter system is difficult to mount and put on the walls. The assembly is carried out either entirely on the ground, and then the structure is lifted to the roof using a crane, or the elements are fed manually upward, and there they are again assembled.
The essence of the rafter system
A simple rafter farm is a triangle of two rafter legs resting against each other, and a puff. A spacer of this design is not transmitted to the walls of the building, since it is neutralized by a puff. The walls are only exposed to vertical forces from the roof, so the design of the support units is extremely simple.

Tightening can be done from wooden bars or metal planks. The tightening can be located at the base of the structure, for example, on the roof of the attic type. In this case, the puff will serve as floor beams, and then the Mauerlat is not needed. Or it is replaced with a board laid on the walls to align the trusses.
When designing a gable roof with hanging rafters, it is worth considering factors such as:
- Weather conditions in the region, the amount of precipitation, snow and wind loads;
- Slope angle;
- Type of roofing.
Based on this, the cross section of the rafter legs, the width of the spans of the hanging rafters will be calculated. The design of the latter depends more on the length of the spans of the building and the attic.

A system with hanging rafters is not used if the walls of the house are more than 12 meters apart from each other. This is due to the lack of ridge run: the lower ends of the rafters abut against the walls, and the upper ones are interconnected. At large distances, the bearing capacity will not be too high. To strengthen such rafters, beams and struts are used.
Installation Rules
When installing a gable roof with hanging rafters, the following installation procedure must be observed:
- Farms, consisting of two rafters and puffs, can be assembled on the ground, and then raised to the roof. However, it is quite difficult to do this, often a special technique is required. Sometimes professionals fasten farms directly on the roof.
- The rafters are determined on the sides, the right and left rafters are outlined.
- At the top of the rafters are interconnected in one of the selected ways: a joint or an overlap.
- After the first two rafter legs are installed, templates for the remaining details are made on them.
- According to the patterns on the ground, a second pair of legs is made, which is mounted on the opposite edge of the building.
- A rope is pulled between the pediment pairs, along which the installation level of the remaining rafters will be controlled.
- The rest of the rafters are placed at the desired distance from each other according to the project.
- The height of the rafters is adjusted with a taut rope, using wooden linings.
- To withstand the step between the rafters, the desired distance from the bottom is marked on the Mauerlat, and at the top on the time board.

In the case of proper installation and determination of the necessary scheme, the construction of a gable roof with hanging rafters will be reliable, strong and durable in operation.
