Replacing doors in an apartment is not possible without the use of special elements - platbands. They allow you to hide the cracks that occur during installation, as well as traces of used building materials. With proper installation, platbands give the door structure a final appearance. They are made either from natural wood, or from MDF and other artificial materials. In this case, the choice depends on the material of manufacture of the door leaf.
In some cases, the length of the platbands is not enough, but because it needs to be independently increased. However, this must be done so that the place of building does not catch the eye and does not spoil the overall interior.
Work stages
At the initial stage, it is necessary to determine how long the platbands should increase. To increase the length, it is worth using similar materials that can be combined with each other. For example, platbands made of natural wood should in no case be built up using elements from MDF coated with veneer.
After all the necessary elements are assembled, you can proceed with the installation of the door frame and its fastening with construction foam. Additional elements to the platbands must be installed as tightly as possible so that gaps do not form between them. The absence of gaps will make the door structure aesthetic and hide the fact of building platbands from prying eyes.
It is easiest to build platbands using add-ons with a suitable color and texture. In this case, the changes are guaranteed not to be striking, and the design will look solid.
Mounting Materials
To glue part of the extension to the casing, you must use a special glue for wood. You can also use any sealants or liquid nails, but in this case visible cracks or bumps may remain.
The glue should be smeared with as thin a layer as possible so that when compressing the parts it does not leak out and does not spoil the appearance of the door leaf. After gluing, it is worth giving the platband time to completely dry. It is better to leave the structure untouched for one day.
If the platband is to be painted subsequently, its processing should also be carried out only after complete drying. If necessary, the surface can be sanded and soaked with any antiseptic. Thus, in order to increase the platband, you do not need to have specific skills, and therefore everyone can do this, even not familiar with the basics of construction.
