Under the generalized concept of “artistic” plaster, there are 3 types of wall decoration:
- Decorative;
- Textured;
- Art painting or mural.

Immediately determine that before applying any decorative coating, the wall must be treated with a primer in order to strengthen the adhesion of materials and reduce the removal of water from the solution by the base material. Also common for all types of plastering is the presence of a flat surface. Even a textured surface suggesting the creation of a certain relief is created on an even basis.
If you already have a flat wall, it’s interesting to decorate it with plaster. For the latter kind it is necessary to have certain skills and partly even the talent of the artist, and the first two methods are quite simple to perform.

Decorative
In this finishing method, color pigment is of particular importance. In this case, the finish surface often has coating defects created specially. These finishes include Venetian plaster. The mixture for the Venetian is sold ready-made, but white. You can paint it in any color with the help of special tinting. Apply this type of plaster in several layers, each of which is ground to a flat surface, but in a different direction. The result is a very beautiful effect of the old wall. Topcoat ensures a long finish.

Textured
The method involves obtaining any type of texture on the wall. Sometimes the surface is painted, which enhances the effect of unevenness. The oldest method is to spray ordinary cement-lime mortar with an ordinary broom. So our grandfathers also created a facade "coat".
Now, builders use a roller, stencil or comb (spatula with an uneven edge) to obtain various wall drawings. That is, a thin layer of usually ready-made mixture is applied to the wall (sold in buckets), and then the surface is rolled with a patterned roller, pressed with a stencil or processed with a comb.

In addition to the tool, to create a texture, you can use special plaster mixes of the “Bark beetle” type. Small particles are introduced into the mixture, which, when aligned with a trowel, leave small grooves inside the layer. It turns out a surface in appearance resembling beetle-eaten wood.
